The Malthouse is a barn conversion completed in 2020 to a high specification. In times past it was where they prepared the malt for the village brewery. It is annexed to Fourways, which is a historic thatched house in the centre of the village of Shroton. The Malthouse is ideally suited to a couple wanting a peaceful base for exploring the Dorset countryside or for a family with up to two children over 6 wanting a base for a family holiday. Downstairs it consists of a main bedroom with queen sized bed, a living/dining area with a modern well equipped kitchen, and a shower room with toilet. A circular staircase leads to an attic bedroom with two full sized single beds. The Malthouse is totally self contained. It has under floor electric heating powered by green electricity, with a supplementary electric ‘wood burning’ stove for the colder months. Outside there is off street parking for one car and a separate garden area which basks in the evening sun. It has a gazebo and garden chairs for your sole use. The Malthouse is in the peaceful village of Shroton (Iwerne Courtney). The village lies well off the A350 about halfway between the Dorset towns of Shaftesbury and Blandford Forum. Shroton is a typical North Dorset village of about 400 people, with the renowned Cricketers Pub, local historic church, and a dairy farm selling fresh milk and other locally sourced produce. Freshly baked bread can be bought from a very well stocked village shop about a mile to the North in Iwerne Minster. The village also has an enthusiastic cricket club with a classic village cricket pitch, nestling under Hambledon Hill which is on the Wessex Ridgeway, a well known walkers’ paradise. Hambledon Hill has extensive ancient earthworks which have seen human activity for over 5000 years. Hod Hill, which was a more recent Roman garrison, also provides excellent walking and magnificent views to the Cranborne Chase to the east and the Dorset coast to the south. Within 45 minutes’ drive is the Dorset Jurassic coast with the world famous Studland beach and magnificent coastal walks. The historic city of Salisbury lies to the north east, and the towns of Poole and Dorchester are also nearby.

Blandford Forum is a market town in Dorset, England, situated by the River Stour. Notable for its Georgian architecture, most of the town was rebuilt in the 18th century after it was destroyed by a fire in 1731. King George II made a donation to rebuild the town centre with designs from local architects John and William Bastard. The Blandford Georgian Fayre is an annual event held in the first week of May and celebrates its Georgian heritage, with presentations, historical re-enactments and music and dancing. One of the town’s biggest events takes place on the late Bank Holiday weekend, the Great Dorset Steam Fair. A largely colourful festival with over 2,000 exhibits and an old time steam funfair. Offering a wide selection of independent store, supermarkets, pubs, restaurants, cafés and a Georgian tearoom. So much to visit within this quaint town and makes for a wonderful tourist attraction, whatever the season.
