Location Details
Brampton is the ideal location from which to explore Hadrian's Wall. The town's history dates back to the Roman occupation, Border reivers from Scotland, and the Jacobite uprisings. Additionally, Bonnie Prince Charlie established his headquarters in one of Brampton's old buildings. In the town's centre is Moot Hall, which was constructed in 1817 and now houses the Tourist Information Centre. To the east of the town is a large motte that is 135 feet tall and features a statue of the 7th Earl of Carlisle. A few miles outside of Brampton, Talkin Tarn Country Park can be found. It encompasses 120 acres of farmland and forest, 65 of which comprise the Tarn, a 10,000-year-old glacial lake fed by underground springs. Two miles away is Gelt Woods, an RSPB nature reserve and ancient woodland with the River Gelt running through it. Brampton is an ideal location from which to explore this historic and beautiful region.
Impressive mountains, open fells and clear-water lakes, the Lake District has it all. From walking in the mountains to exhilarating watersports or just a gentle cruise on a steam-powered yacht, Cumbria is the perfect holiday destination.
