Whitney-on-Wye 4.7 miles. A beautiful semi-detached black and white cottage ideally located on the owner's organic farm, owned by The National Trust, surrounded by 300 acres of farm and woodland incorporating numerous walks and an abundance of wildlife and wild flowers - watch out for the owner's cattle, sheep and chickens but not forgetting to take in the amazing long distance views. The high quality and personal touches are evident as you step inside this delightful cottage. Two stunning first floor beamed bedrooms have been thoughtfully furnished with crisp cotton bedlinen and fluffy towels. The bathroom boasts a separate shower and bath, ideal for those wishing to take a relaxing soak after a day on the hills. On the ground floor is a well-equipped beamed kitchen with dining area and a gorgeous beamed sitting room with ample sumptuous seating, door to the rear garden and window perfect for sitting and taking in the lovely views. Outside enjoy an evening BBQ, alfresco dining or sit, relax and take in the sounds of the countryside. You are ideally placed to explore the stunning Black Mountains and the National Park. Why not take one of the many footpaths up Hay Bluff, a prominent hill that crosses the border of Wales and England, with a flat summit and panoramic views across the town of Hay and the Wye Valley, and enjoy a walk along the ridge to Black Hill? Alternatively, take a drive to the stunning natural lake at Llangorse, where you can enjoy lakeside walks or take a trip out on the pedaloes. The area offers numerous outdoor activities such as canoeing on the River Wye, as well as popular salmon or coarse fishing. Take time out and go pony trekking to see the Black Mountains and Radnorshire Hills. Hay-on-Wye is also on the northern edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park, opening up even more days out exploring the fabulous mountains in the park. Slightly further afield, there is Builth Wells, with the Royal Welsh Showground, that hosts various annual events. Perhaps take a trip to the popular cathedral city of Hereford, and enjoy a day at the racecourse on the edge of the city. A tranquil retreat perfect for a memorable holiday at any time of year.

Whitney-on-Wye is a pretty Herefordshire village nestling on the banks of the River Wye, close to the Welsh border. Many walks can be enjoyed from the village with the Herefordshire Trail, Wye Valley Walk and Offa's Dyke Path all passing close by. The whole area is renowned for its countryside, which provides cycling, bird watching, fishing and canoeing in the nearby River Wye. Nearby, the medieval village of Eardisley boasts many early 16th century black and white cottages, two pubs and village shop. The ancient city of Hereford lies just over half an hour’s drive away, with its cathedral housing its famous chained library and Mappa Mundi.
