Thirsk (5 miles) boasts a quaint marketplace, splendid Georgian buildings, a Norman church, and excellent pubs, shops, restaurants, a cinema, and a leisure centre. The North York Moors National Park (9.6 miles) is teeming with excellent walking areas and routes, with The Cleveland Way being a popular waymarked trail to follow, bringing you across some breath taking landscapes. Take a trip further south to find the White Horse, the largest and most northerly of England's horse figures, it's a fantastic sight to behold! Another historic and scenic setting is the National Trust's Rievaulx Abbey (15.8 miles) and Terrace, dramatic 11th century ruins in the North York Moors with a café and visitor centre too.
