A little further afield is the gorgeous town of Cheltenham, famous for its Regency buildings, and for its internationally renowned horse racing meetings - most notably the Gold Cup meeting every March, something that the owners take a particular interest in.
Painswick, located only 7 miles from Cheltenham, is a town and civil parish in Gloucestershire. The town originated from the wool trade, but is now best known for its parish church’s yew trees and the local Rococo Garden. The village is mainly constructed of locally quarried Cotswold Stone. It stands on a hill in the Stroud district which overlooks one of the Five Valleys. It is home to a cricket and rugby team and has a popular golf course on the outskirts of the town. There is a local pubs such as The Oak and the Falcon Inn which offer real ales, real fires and a courtyard. Three miles from town you will find the foot of Painswick Beacon which affords vast views across the Gloucester and the Welsh Black Mountains. The ACP Gallery and local café can also be found nearby. Painswick is 4 miles north of Stroud and 4 miles east of Harescombe.
