Description

The open plan kitchen, dining area is to the rear of the cottage. The well-equipped kitchen is fitted with contemporary units and patio doors open from here onto the patio. The first of the bedrooms is on the ground floor with views out the front garden and fields beyond, offering a choice of king-size or twin beds. There is an adjacent bathroom with whirlpool bath, basin and WC. Stairs lead to the first floor where there is a small second sitting room, or reading room, with beautiful views to Blencathra and the north, and has sofa and breakfast table and a small butler’s kitchenette with sink, fridge and kettle. The second bedroom faces north across the fields has a king size bed and en-suite bathroom. The final bedroom, facing south is presented with twin beds and an en-suite shower room. To the rear of the house there is a sheltered patio area with outdoor dining furniture and to the front there is a front garden with lawn and planted borders. Secure mountain bike storage is available and there is private parking for two cars. Troutbeck (there are two in the Lake District – this is the one in the north near Keswick) is a small hamlet close to the popular village of Pooley Bridge at the northernmost tip of Ullswater, which has a lovely choice of village pubs, cafes and shops. The area has a huge selection of footpaths, bridleways and mountain bike trails. Travelling from the central Lakes over the stunning Kirkstone Pass you will drop down into the beautiful glacial carved landscapes surrounding Ullswater, with villages along its shoreline. At the southern end of the Lake you will find Glenridding, a popular little village and an excellent base to explore plentiful challenging peaks but especially Helvellyn and Striding Edge. Ullswater is often thought as the most beautiful of all the lakes in the northern Lake District, being a serpentine body of water snaking a nine-mile course under the lea of magnificent fells, woodland and mountain. Much of the lake, its shore and surrounding fells are accessible to explore, where you will find some of the finest walks and water activities, along with the amenities of the lakeside villages. You will be able to ramble all day with magnificent views. A gentler walk is Aira Force, probably the most famous of the Lake District waterfalls. The main force falls some 70ft below a stone footbridge - so don't forget your camera. Getting on the water is easy. You can take a boat cruise on a beautiful steamer from Pooley Bridge or Glenridding, with piers also at Howtown & Aira Force. It's a great way to see the lake from a different perspective. Boat hire is readily available, both at Glenridding and Pooley Bridge, with kayaks, sailing boats and little motorboats, along with hire of fishing tackle and licenses. In the other direction, Keswick is a bustling market town set between the peaks of Skiddaw and the gentle beauty of Derwentwater. With good shops, a host of restaurants and cafes, along with museums, a theatre, cinema and leisure centre. The A591 winds its way from Keswick to Grasmere and on to Ambleside and from there branching off to Coniston and such delights as the Langdale Valley and Hawkshead.

The bustling market town of Penrith, once the capital of Cumbria, enjoys a central position between the Lake District and North Pennines and is ideally placed for taking in all that the region has to offer. Renowned for its wealth of specialist shops, the sandstone buildings of Penrith hide intriguing yards, lanes and alleyways, with a myriad of attractive cottages, gardens and little shops. With a wide choice of excellent pubs, hotels, restaurants and entertainment, Penrith also offers a museum, and Millennium Trails round the historic city streets. Within easy reach of the town is Rheged – an innovative visitor centre with shops, restaurants, exhibitions and a giant cinema screen showing educational and informative films. Brougham Castle (The Windsor of the North), Long Meg and her daughters (the 3rd largest stone circle in England) and the historic city of Carlisle are all a short drive away, as is the stunning scenery of both the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales.
