Description

Lochranza, which is built around the sea loch of the same name, is in the North Arran National Scenic Area (Scotland s equivalent of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty). Arran s longest stretch of wild coastline and some of its best hill walks are on the doorstep. There is an abundance of wildlife to spot. Otters and seals swim in the bay, golden eagles nest in the nearby hills and dolphins and porpoises are regular visitors. Red deer and red squirrels can be seen without even leaving the cottage. The village is home to the Arran distillery, with visitor centre and cafe, and the popular Stags restaurant and Sandwich Station takeaway. It is also the port for the ferry to the Kintyre peninsula and in summer it s possible to take a day trip, perhaps to visit Skipness Castle or the tiny island of Gigha. Golfers are well served by Arran s nine varied courses, one of which is in Lochranza, and for water lovers, kayaking, paddleboarding, snorkelling and gorge walking are all on offer. Other island attractions include Brodick castle and gardens (with adventure playground), a marine discovery centre, a geology centre and a heritage museum. The cottage has been sympathetically renovated and retains its period charm. The kitchen/diner has a Rayburn for both cooking and central heating and a wood burner for extra cosiness. For convenience, there s an additional electric hob and combi microwave oven, plus fridge, freezer, dishwasher and washing machine. From the table, you can enjoy views over the bay, with Lochranza castle at its heart, and the open sea beyond. On the other side of the hall is the comfortable sitting room, with similarly spectacular views and an open fire. It has a sofa bed for extra sleeping space, if required. Also off the hall is a toilet, tucked under the stairs, which looks out onto the cliff behind the house. Stripped wooden stairs lead to the light and airy first floor, with two spacious double bedrooms and a bathroom with shower over the bath. A single put me up bed, or cot, can be added to either or both bedrooms on request. The garden slopes down towards the sea and has a seating area with waterfall, plus a secluded side garden. Need to know: 2 bedrooms 2 doubles. 1 bathroom with shower over bath and WC and 1 separate WC. AGA, electric hob, combi microwave oven, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and washing machine. Open fire and wood burner (first basket of logs included). Garden with furniture and BBQ. Sky TV Essentials with catch up and programme recording. 4 dogs welcome. Roadside parking, subject to availability. Restaurant 1 mile away. Shop and pub approx. 8 miles from accommodation.
