Description
Exquisite Exmoor retreat in the centre of the only south facing village on Exmoor, this superbly renovated wing of a Georgian rectory offers bespoke accommodation, blending antiquities with modern comforts.
The village of Wootton Courtenay is positioned below Dunkery Beacon, which is the highest point on Exmoor and has its own microclimate. From your front door you can walk to Dunster, a stunning medieval village with a National Trust castle, or you can walk over Wootton Common to Minehead and join the coast path. There are many exhilarating mountain bike tracks too through the forests and moors. Minehead, a small coastal town, is just over 4 miles away with a beach, shops, bars, restaurants, supermarkets and a steam railway. Exmoor is an International Dark Skies Reserve and hosts a Dark Skies Festival each year around November. At the beginning of December, you can witness Dunster by Candlelight, an annual event which evokes the nostalgic spirit of Christmas. And when the snowdrops appear, a short trip down the lanes brings you to the famous Snowdrop Valley. Tucked away through a gated entrance lies this wonderful, wing of a Georgian rectory, which is full of period features including stripped floor boards and original walls. The owners live next door in the main part of the house: they are discreet and will respect your privacy, but are on hand should you need them. Entering this exquisite property, you are immediately greeted by a light and airy kitchen which has everything you might need to cook and entertain, with an electric hob and oven, fridge with ice compartment, microwave, dishwasher, and coffee machine. From here continue into the hall and into the drawing room which affords wonderful views over the south facing patio and beyond. There is an open fire set in a beautiful fireplace and French doors that open onto the patio, whilst a Smart TV and a dining table give you a chance to spend quality time with your loved ones or celebrate an occasion with friends. When the day draws to a close, head up the winding cottage style stairs and retire to bed in one of the two bedrooms situated on different floors. On the first floor is the first king size bedroom which has beautiful views, an original feature fireplace and has been carefully furnished with tasteful Exmoor finishing touches. There is an en suite shower and a separate en suite WC. Head up a further flight of winding cottage style stairs to the second floor and step down into the en suite bathroom, an elegant room with period features, a stunning heritage freestanding bath with mixer shower attachment and WC. From here enter the second gorgeous king size bedroom complete with a window seat where you can enjoy the views. Venture through the drawing room French doors that open onto the enclosed south facing patio with seating, which overlooks the garden and beyond. To the front of the property is an enclosed, walled garden with seating. There is also secure storage for bikes and the property features ample off road parking. Need to know: 2 bedrooms 2 king size. 1 en suite shower room with shower and WC and 1 en suite bathroom with bath, mixer shower and WC.
