Description

With cottage-lined streets that meander past Cornish cafes and crafts shops down to its pretty harbour and historic breakwater; life in the unspoilt fishing village of Porthleven on Cornwall’s beautiful south coast is unbelievably relaxing; and one that needs to be experienced to be fully appreciated.

Tucked away into the heart of the village and bursting with character features, this beautifully refurbished fisherman’s cottage is right in keeping with traditional Porthleven and is just the place for whiling the days (or weeks) away in this lovely coastal town. Stripped wooden floorboards and chunky whitewashed walls as well as an original stone lintel above the fireplace and sash windows throughout lend authenticity and charm to the home, with unconventional soft furnishings and one-off coast-inspired pieces nodding to the cottage’s seaside location.

Just a short stroll from the waterfront, a stay at the cottage means morning coffees and croissants can be enjoyed at The Twisted Currant tea-room on your way down to the harbour, and if you pack a picnic you’ll be able to enjoy an exceptionally beautiful walk along the nearby South West Coast Path all the way to The Lizard. With a variety of acclaimed seafood restaurants peppering its streets, dining out in Porthleven is highly recommended. There’s the incredible Kota with its exquisite Cornish Asian dishes (head chef Jude recently featured on BBC’s TV program Great British menu) as well as the rustic Mussel Shoal with some of the best views of the harbour.

Arranged over two floors, the cottage’s interior flows between a beautiful living room, kitchen and family bathroom downstairs, and two deliciously cosy bedrooms upstairs. Light-filled and welcoming, the living room comes complete with a wood-burning stove and log store, with a sink-in sofa and bean bag creating the perfect space to tempt cosy evenings in, while the separate kitchen is amply equipped with small and large appliances as well as a dining table and chairs for sharing meals and conversation around.

Perfectly positioned within close proximity of all that the area has to offer, the village’s three mile stretch of beach leads south-west to Loe Bar and Gunwalloe Cove, with the wonderful Praa Sands just a short drive away. Further afield lie the towns of Marazion and its famous St Michael’s Mount, as well as Falmouth with its fantastic Maritime Museum, while nearby Penrose Estate makes for a fantastic family-friendly day out.
