The property is located on a working beef farm and the owner is happy to show visitors round the farm. Steeped in history, New Abbey village is delightful - not only can you visit the ruins of the abbey, it also has a watermill and a corn mill. The village has many walks on offer including the steps up to the Waterloo Monument, and close by is the prominent Criffel Hill (1871ft), a more strenuous walk, but certainly worth it for the views when you reach the summit. Dumfries and Galloway has so much to offer, from walking and cycling to fishing, mountain biking and golf. Try the region’s fantastic nine and eighteen-hole golf courses set amid stunning scenery, none more so than the world famous links course at Southerness, just seven miles from Lochhill. Alternatively, you can enjoy a day exploring the many beautiful beaches along the Solway Coast. If you prefer a faster pace, take on one of the region’s enthralling mountain bike trails with the world-class 7Stanes close by which caters for all abilities, including forest tracks and exhilarating downhill trails. Further afield, the Galloway Forest Park not only has some stunning scenery, but is also the UK’s first Dark Sky Park where over 7000 stars and planets are visible with the naked eye on a clear night.
