Situated right on the high street in the quaint village of Gilling West, Poppy Cottage is perfect for walkers and cyclists, and there are numerous established public footpaths, walks, cycle routes and bridleways passing directly through the village and out towards Richmond and beyond. With footpaths leading through open fields, woodland, scenic countryside and all the way towards the Yorkshire Dales National Park. With two local pubs and free use of the flat bowling green in the village, just a short walk away, Poppy Cottage is also the perfect destination for those wanting to enjoy a quiet, romantic break. Only 3 miles away is the popular Georgian town of Richmond, where there are numerous top quality restaurants, bistros and bars, as well as antiques and gift shops. There is a farmers market that takes place on the cobbled market square as well as numerous tourist attractions to visit, including the historic castle that stands high on the hill and overlooks the thriving town below. There are also excellent riverside and woodland walks leading from Richmond too, and one of the most popular is Wainwright’s famous Coast to Coast walk. Within easy reach are many historic houses and National Trust properties which really are worth a day trip to visit. The magnificent Yorkshire Dales National Park is also within easy driving distance and the many popular North Yorkshire towns and villages, including Leyburn, Aysgarth, Hawes, Ripon, Yarm, Northallerton, Reeth, Muker and Gunnerside.
