The cottage is one of 111 originally built as estate workers’ cottages for the Canford Estate, which is now Canford School, and they are known locally as Lady Wimborne Cottages. Their construction is attributed to the philanthropic work of Lady Charlotte Guest, wife of Sir John Guest who was the owner of a vast Welsh iron and steel works, followed by the work of their daughter-in-law Cornelia, Lady Wimborne, from whom the cottages took their name. The cottages were built between 1867 and 1904 and each has a number over the front door indicating the order they were built. Upstairs there are two bedrooms, the master benefiting from a walk-in wardrobe, and a separate bathroom.
