This is a great place to return to after a busy day sightseeing. Close by lie the market towns of Newmarket, with its famous races, and Bury St Edmunds with its National Trust priory and gardens. Making time to visit the university city of Cambridge is a must, where many walking and punting tours await, as well as museums (including The Fitzwilliam) and a variety of places where you can shop and eat. Norwich, with its magnificent Norman castle and numerous museums, and the Hanseatic quarter of old Kings Lynn make for further days out. Closer still lies Ely with its cathedral, long described as the ‘Ship of the Fens’, and its stained glass museum. For a change of pace and some sea air, you can be in Hunstanton in just over an hour.
