The area is steeped in history - visit the 2000-year-old brochs, Hanovarian Barracks or Eilean Donan Castle. A trip over the short ferry crossing to Skye taking the old drove road to the main part of the island and back via the bridge and Hamish MacBeth country is well worth the effort. Walking, bird spotting, climbing or simply absorbing the views are all popular pastimes. The river is also home to a colony of otters who can provide excellent entertainment.
