Mary’s Cottage is just a short walk away to the Churnet Valley Steam Railway, which will take you on a journey through the beautiful countryside known as Staffordshire’s ’Little Switzerland’. If you prefer to see the countryside on foot, the Staffordshire Way, a long distance walking route that spans the length of the county, is a short walk from the cottage. For a day of thrilling rides, visit Alton Towers Resort only 6 miles away. There are many museums and historic houses in the area including many National Trust properties, The Old Manor, Biddulph Grange Garden and Sudbury Hall. The town of Cheadle with supermarkets, shops, pubs and restaurants is 2 miles, and there are many nearby market towns to visit within easy reach such as Leek, Uttoxeter, Ashbourne and Buxton. Stoke-on-Trent, which is famous for its potteries and museums (Wedgewood, Bridgewater) and Gladstone Pottery Museum, is 13 miles.
