Over 150 years old, Augustus Cottage is a charming detached Welsh cottage on the edge of the village of Llangadog, set in the beautiful Carmarthenshire countryside. The cottage has been thoughtfully renovated to retain the character, with exposed stone walls in the living room and the small country kitchen; which also has a Belfast sink. The cottage is all on one level inside and has an enclosed garden and patio. As you sit in front of the cosy wood burner with a glass of wine in hand and look out over the open views across Llangadog Common, you will appreciate the tranquillity of the place. At the edge of the common is an old toll house which charged farmers for collecting lime from the old quarries in the Black Mountain during the 19th century. Llangadog is in the heart of the Towy Valley, situated between Llandeilo and Llandovery and on the western edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park. Here you can enjoy rolling hills and pasture, and picturesque views towards the Black Mountain. You will find an abundance of places to eat and drink and guests who enjoy fishing can buy weekly permits in the village. Llangadog also lies on the Heart of Wales Railway, so you may want to park the car and take a ride on the train passing through the sleepy villages and stately Victorian spa towns. From Swansea to Shrewsbury, there’s a plethora of lovely views to enjoy including the Loughor estuary near Llanelli and the winding River Tywi between Llandeilo and Llandovery. Red kites can be seen soaring in the sky above the hills as you pass by Llanwrtyd Wells, the Radnor Forest, Llandrindod Wells, Knighton, and the borderlands of the English Marches. The thriving small towns of Llandeilo and Llandovery are both worth a visit with an array of independent shopping and a wide range of excellent restaurants and cafés. Both towns hold a variety of events throughout the year so it’s worth checking their events calendars before you set off. Don’t miss seeing the red kites being fed at the Llanddeusant Red Kite Feeding Centre, open every day and only 5 miles away. The Brecon Beacons National Park has masses to offer visitors. Their long and rich history steeped in myths and legend adds to the distinctive Welsh culture and vibrancy of the region. The waterfalls, ancient standing stones, castles and the mountains and vast moorland will capture your imagination and take your breath away. The Brecon Beacons National Park is around 42 miles wide and covers approximately 520 square miles of south and mid Wales, so if you want an action packed break or a relaxing holiday there’s so much to discover here. Come and stay at Augustus Cottage and find out for yourself. Shop, pub and restaurant ½ mile. Free WiFi
