Built around 1700, Lamont Cottage has been renovated to offer wonderful holiday accommodation for families or friends to get together. It is decorated and furnished to a very good standard and retains many original features including a wig cupboard, feature fireplaces and in the main bedroom there is original writing on the wall from 1756. The cottage is situated in the small village of Niton on the south east of the Isle of Wight, and is within a short distance of the beach. The neighbouring town of Ventnor is a short drive away, as are the small coves and quiet beaches of the west coast of the island. Lamont Cottage lies on the edge of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with stunning walks and cycle routes, and close to the beautiful south coast with its golden beaches. Blackgang Chine, the oldest themed attraction in the UK and The Needles at Alum Bay, are within easy reach. Other attractions include Ventnor Botanical Gardens, Isle of Wight Pearl, Dinosaur Isle, donkey sanctuary, Calbourne Water Mill with its 17th century working watermill, Queen Victoria’s holiday residence Osborne House and Gardens, and Carisbrooke Castle. With one of the most beautiful parts of the coastal path extending from close to the cottage, this is a wonderful area for walking. The sailing towns of Yarmouth and Cowes, and the popular resorts of Shanklin and Sandown are nearby. The island can be explored from the open-top buses that stop regularly at various collection points. Outdoor pursuits include cycling, riding and fishing. Beach 1½ miles. Shops 200 yards, pub and restaurant 300 yards.
