Pooley Bridge offers many traditional inns serving good food and delightful views across to Ullswater and the surrounding fells and mountains, and departing from the village is the Ullswater Steamers, which take you down the lake to the villages of Glenridding and Howtown. The scenery in this area is outstanding and a drive down the side of Ullswater to Glenridding and further on up the Kirkstone Pass takes you to the bustling towns of Ambleside and Bowness-on-Windermere. There are plenty of opportunities for walkers to don their boots and enjoy walks in the area, including for the most experienced Striding Edge and Helvellyn - England's third highest mountain, while the Aira Falls offer a gentler alternative. A charming cottage, which can be enjoyed at any time of the year.
