The Stables is a delightfully renovated cottage in the quiet hamlet of Bridgend, Kilmichael Glassary, which is located in historic Mid Argyll, between two scenic glens, both steeped in prehistory and teeming with wildlife. Originally housing farm horses, The Stables is conveniently all on one level and renovated sympathetically with thick stone white-washed walls. A welcoming retreat after a day’s exploring the delights of Mid Argyll, it has a light, airy, high ceilinged, open-plan living/kitchen/dining area, decorated with relaxed rustic styling. Cosily heated by oil central heating, it is well-equipped and benefits from Wi-Fi, Smart TV, and both DVD and CD players. The spacious double bedroom has an en-suite shower room and large picture window enjoying pretty views onto the garden. An opaque glass door leads out onto the lawned enclosed garden with outdoor seating enjoying tranquil village and countryside views. Kilmichael Glassary and Kilmartin Glen, form part of an area steeped in Neolithic and Bronze Age history with an impressive offering of pre-historic sites, including castles, standing stones, burial cairns and hill forts. Almost right next door is the Moine Mhor, a rugged and beautiful landscape, where you will find Dunadd, the site of an Iron Age fort which was the capital of the ancient Scottish kingdom of Dalriada. Kilmichael also has plenty to offer in the way of forest walks with spectacular scenery, or you could take your bike a short distance to Achnabreck bike trail. Outdoor activities locally include horse riding, sailing, walking, fishing and canoeing. The Kilmartin Glen footpath passes close-by, passing many ancient monuments on its 5-mile journey to the village of Kilmartin where there is a museum with coffee/gift shop, garage and hotel with bar and restaurant. In the opposite direction, the path leads to Cairnbaan which has a hotel and bar, and the Crinan Canal, one of the most beautiful waterways in Britain passing through 9 miles of wonderful scenery between Ardrishaig and Crinan. Crinan harbour is 6 miles away through an attractive winding single track road or a walk or cycle along the canal towpath. Boats can be chartered from Crinan harbour and there are trips around the islands where it is possible to see whales, porpoise, seals, many sea birds including golden and white-tailed eagles, and the spectacular Corryvreckan Whirlpools. Kilmichael is situated just a short 5-mile drive from the local country town of Lochgilphead, which has a variety of specialist shops, cafés and restaurants, a swimming pool, golf course and sports centre. Further afield but offering a great day out are the towns of Oban to the north, the Gateway to the Isles; Inveraray, the capital of Argyll, to the East and Campbeltown to the far South on the Kintyre Peninsula. Beach 5 miles. Free WiFi
