Ashdale is a detached bungalow, situated along Ness Road which leads out from Fortrose and Rosemarkie towards Chanonry Point at the end of a dramatic sandy spit that juts out into the Moray Firth. On this spit is where you will find the 15th oldest golf course in the world mentioned above. Also, at the end of the spit you will find an iconic Stevenson lighthouse built in 1846. From the Chanonry Point lighthouse, you have a fantastic chance to spot bottlenose dolphins, seals and many species of bird. It is actually one of the best places in Europe to watch dolphins from the shore. Fortrose is an incredibly characterful town with layers of history. It boasts the ruins of a cathedral dating back to the mid-13th century, as well as many other historic, listed buildings. There’s an active sailing club at the small harbour and one of the best places to eat and drink in the Highlands. On the northern side of the spit out to Chanonry Point is the village of Rosemarkie, only several hundred yards away from Fortrose. Unlike Fortrose it has a sandy beach, which is 1.5 miles long and is ideal for families as there are two cafés, tennis courts and a play area. It’s an outstanding walk from Ashdale House over to Rosemarkie to pick-up a coffee and then along the beach to the lighthouse, all the while keeping an eye out for dolphins. You really don’t have to leave Fortrose and Rosemarkie to have the most amazing holiday. However, if you’re exploring more of the Highlands, being based in this part of the world is a great choice. Only 15 minutes’ drive from the A9, you can be exploring different parts of the north and west Highlands in no time at all. Stay at Ashdale House, a fantastic base in a wonderful place, but close to the roads that lead you to higher Highland ground full of myths and legends. Inverness airport is 20 miles away. Beach 400 yards. Shop, pub and restaurant ¾ mile. Free WiFi
