A charming country cottage, set in the peaceful village of Brompton, just 1½ miles from Northallerton. Originally a weaver’s cottage in the 1800s, the property is warm and welcoming and has been sympathetically restored combining traditional features with modern day comfort. The sitting room with beautiful, flagged stone floors has a warming wood burner, perfect for cosy winter nights in by the fire. There is a double sofa bed allowing flexible sleeping arrangements. Step down into a separate snug area where you can sit and read in quiet or watch TV. The country-style shaker kitchen (installed in 2021), open plan with the dining area, provides a very sociable space. Upstairs are two delightful double bedrooms with 18th century wooden floor, the master bedroom with a contemporary four poster bed and antique chaise, and the second bedroom with a Victorian brass bed. There is a separate modern family bathroom. A short stroll through the village takes you to the picturesque common where the beck meanders to the village inn, serving good beer and wholesome food. A short drive will take you to the bustling market town of Northallerton, where you will find an array of independent shops, restaurants, tea rooms, artisan bakery, delis and award-winning butcher. The beautiful wide high street showcases some fine Georgian architecture, with a twice-weekly market every Wednesday and Saturday, where you can buy fresh local produce. Enjoy afternoon tea in the famous Betty’s tea room, an absolute treat for all. For the outdoor enthusiast, the property is perfectly situated in an area which offers outstanding walking and riding, close to the Yorkshire Dales National Park and the North York Moors National Park, making it perfect for great days out in some of Britain’s most beautiful landscapes. The local market towns of Harrogate, Bedale, Ripon and Thirsk are a short drive with the historic city of York just under an hour away. From Northallerton, the high-speed rail link to York takes 20 minutes, an enjoyable day out to walk the historic walls, visit the famous York Minster and take a trip back in time at the Jorvik Viking Centre. Rail enthusiasts will delight in the National Railway Museum, whilst the many upmarket shops provide excellent retail therapy. Even though the cottage does not have a garden space for use by guests it is directly opposite the village green for sitting relaxing or strolling, or 2 minutes from meadows where you can picnic. Furry friends are well catered for and plenty of local walks run straight from the door. The cottage has nearby links to both the A1 and A19 road networks making getting out and about so convenient. A perfect base to stay for guests of local weddings venues. There is so much to do in this part of North Yorkshire, from beaches to moors, you will want to return time and again. Free WiFi
