If you’d like to park up for the day and let the train whisk you to your destination, Watlington train station will take you to Kings Lynn, Ely and even the university city of Cambridge, which is just 45 minutes by train. Here you will find lots to see and do including punting trips on the river Cam, the Fitzwilliam museum and of course a chance to shop till you drop! But for those who are happy to drive you will be delighted to find that you are just 30 minutes from the stunning North Norfolk coastline. You must make time to explore the sand dunes at Heacham or the more traditional seaside resort of Hunstanton where there are lots of fun things to be found including a Sealife Centre. Also just 15 minutes away lies the city of Kings Lynn with its historical old Quarter. Here you can take guided walking tours and even an evening ghost-walk, which is not for the faint of heart. You will also find a selection of high street and boutique shops, cafés and restaurants. A little over half an hour’s drive away lies the small city of Ely, with its magnificent cathedral rising above the landscape and inspiring its nickname, which is ‘the ship of the fens’. Again, this city has a host of artisan places to shop eat and drink and a stained glass museum too. Those seeking yet more history will also be pleased to find themselves within easy reach of Oliver Cromwell’s House, Peckover House and the Sandringham and Holkham estates too. And wildlife enthusiasts will enjoy a trip to Welney Wetlands where you can fill your lungs with fresh air, stretch your legs and get ready to explore the extraordinary wetland paradise, whatever the weather!
