For walkers, Orton Scar and the Howgills are an exciting prospect for an afternoon excursion, and it is easy to see why this beautiful landscape was so celebrated by renowned fell walker and author Alfred Wainwright. Further afield, the Settle to Carlisle Railway is a must see, and you can hop on board to enjoy the views from Appleby Station 10.5 miles away.
