Description
This special area around the rivers Tamar, Tavy and Lynher is famous for its mining heritage and extends north from the broad estuary at Plymouth to the deeply incised river that meanders just below Launceston and Tavistock bordering the Dartmoor National Park. Honicombe Park has a range of on-site facilities such as indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a sauna, mini-gym and tennis courts, perfect for keeping the more energetic entertained. There are some great walks throughout the Tamar Valley whatever your ability or interests, whilst cycling and horse riding are both popular throughout this spectacular location. For the less active the wonderful Cotehele House is a must to visit, whilst for a day out a trip to Plymouth will provide great shopping, fine eating and historical nautical sightseeing. Why not leave the car behind and take the scenic train journey to Plymouth along the Tamar Valley branch line through the Bere Peninsula crossing the historic viaduct at Calstock. With so much to do and see throughout the year, in this very special area, this homely lodge provides an ideal base for a memorable holiday.
The small rural village of Gunnislake lies on the steeply wooded banks of the River Tamar. It has village pubs and a small selection of shops. Notably, the village sits at one end of the scenic Tamar Valley Railway - with regular services along the river bank to Plymouth. The area is perfect for exploring Dartmoor, the south and north coast beaches and the attractions of Cornwalls far west.
