Reviews

I booked this cottage for myself, my girlfriend and my dog to self isolate in during the COVID pandemic. We actually had to change our booking because of travel and the owner was very communicative and accommodating. The cottage is beautiful, it's set in it's own ground, fenced and gated, with a large lawn which easily accommodates playing with my labrador. It is set on a footpath which makes a quick walk of the dog very easy. The nearest other building is about a 1/4 mile away, but it's only 15 mins to drive to the supermarket so you're secluded but not cut off. The cottage has essentially no sound proofing and you can hear the birds all day and night, which is either something you love or dislike. There is a road right next to the cottage but it is rarely traveled and the occasional car going past is a nice thing to notice rather than an annoyance. The kitchen, though small, is very well appointed, we were able to cook pretty much everything we could want. There was some oil/salt/flour etc left in the kitchen cupboards, I assume by previous guests but it's a great help. Washing machine and washing line. Good sofa in the living room, good dining table and chairs, bathroom is downstairs, small like the kitchen but fine. It has a bath and a shower, plenty of hot water. Plug sockets everywhere. Good wifi. Lovely wood fire with fuel. The master bedroom is beautiful, high ceiling with exposed beams. Large bed which didn't give me back ache. Plenty of furniture to store things. The second bedroom had 2 single beds in it. It was very small and a bit of a maze to navigate in and out of. Fine for kids and for us as just a spare space. A few things to prepare for -The staircase is steep and narrow -Fair amount of flies -Bring some blankets, it's not cold but there aren't any -Downstairs is beautiful stone flags and tile which are cold, bring slippers -Small/few windows so fairly dark inside (it is an old cottage) -Sound travels easily in the house, doors are very loud to open and close. I'd say that it is a perfect retreat for a young couple, but it would not be so hot for a family that includes a young couple. If you get what I mean. If you catch my drift. Everyone will hear you. We came here to self isolate so I can't say anything about what is around. But as a peaceful secluded retreat for a couple it is excellent. I would come again and recommend.

We have just returned from a relaxing week at Point Cottage which we found to be very comfortable, relaxing and well equipped. Large grassed garden ideal for dogs and children playing plus the bonus of a network of bridleways and footpaths from the door to enjoy traffic free walking. The cottage is well equipped with the bonus of a freezer in the garden building, nearest local store is 3 miles away in Madley and there are a couple of supermarkets within 8 miles in Hereford. This is a beautiful part of the UK, friendly villagers, good local pub within a 10 min walk of the cottage. WIFI is reliable and a good bonus. The cottage has been beautifully restored with exposed beams and timbers (but with the bonus of no low ceilings)! Very clean cottage, we will return.

Point Cottage is a real gem. Located between Hereford and Hay, off the beaten track but still easy to get to. On arrival the first thing you notice is the pure bliss of solitude apart from the sheep, birds and the sound of distant farm machinery. There were 5 of us, 2 adults and 3 kids so sleeping arrangements were 1 double room, 1 twin room and a sofa bed downstairs for the grumpy teenager, perfect. This cottage is obviously popular with Dog owners as per the reviews, but there is not a single trace of dogs having been there, it's that clean and fresh. Plenty of supplies in the lovely well equipped kitchen. Dining room and living room extremely cosy and warm. Downstairs Bathroom with shower is very clean and good water pressure in shower. Wi-Fi for the techies and teens. On a summers evening it was pure heaven sitting outside the house having a local ale and just looking up into the pitch black sky and viewing the stars. Something we don't get here in the South East. There really isn't a down side to staying at Point Cottage and I haven't even pointed out the great price for booking.

My wife & I recently stayed at Point Cottage. Really impressed with its traditionalist appearance and how well appointed it was together with the internal refurbishment. Our dog loved it there and it was a great location for exploring the Wye valley. I would thoroughly recommend this cottage and in our humble opinion it was great value.

This is one of the best dog friendly places on offer (this was was our second visit) It is very clean in all respects and very comfortable. Also in a very quiet and peaceful location.

We spent a very relaxing, peaceful week at Point Cottage. The property stands alone along a country lane but is only 1/4 mile from Preston on Wye village. The bridle path alongside the cottage is excellent for dog walking as the only vehicles you might come across is the odd tractor in the surrounding fields. The cottage has a large garden, mainly grass, and is ideal for children and dogs. The large shed is really useful and ideal for wet coats and muddy boots after a day's walking.

Rated by Mrs Marsden reviewed on 8th May 2016

The cottage was clean, cosy and well equipped, with good quality bedding, towels etc. The location and seclusion of the property was the reason we chose this Cottage.

Rated by Mrs Shirley reviewed on 7th May 2016

Pros: very clean, excellent location, log burner Cons: only one toilet / bathroom, too small really for 4 (let alone 6), no sound proofing, tv very small, not as many facilities as expected.

This property was one of the cleanest I have visited. The garden was brilliant for my two dogs who spent all day sniffing new smells and inspecting the garden every morning and evening. We found Point Cottage very comfortable for our needs.

A very clean and very dog friendly property. Had a good hot water and heating system. The garden was an absolute dog paradise with plenty of parking. In a nice quiet location with a friendly pub within a short walk. One of the best.

The cottage was cosy for a winter break, it had good heating, hot water and a log burner that worked well with plenty of fuel. It was close to a good pub, with walking for the dogs outside the door. It's a quaint place to stay in a very peaceful and beautiful part of Herefordshire.

Lovely home from home cottage. Great location, quiet and peaceful setting, but not too far away from visitor attractions. Liked the maps and tourist leaflets left in the cottage for ideas of things to do and places to visit.

One of the best cottages my husband and I have stayed in. The cottage has a very welcoming feel about it , a real home from home. It is very well stocked and has everything you would need for a self catering holiday. They do provide bed linen and towels. It has a very large garden which is secure and perfect for children and dogs. The floors inside the property are stone so no worries with dogs about ruining carpets.we went in the autumn and the house heated up quickley and was very cosy, we used the log burner a couple of times which was very easy to use. The bed and lounge furniture is very comfortable. The bottle milk was very much appreciated and the flowers lovely. They have lots of leaflets and info on things to see and do. One of our favourite places being symonds yat. Lots of lovely walks on the doorsteps including a bridlepath right outside the gate, fab for dogs. I would highly recommend this cottage

A beautifully furnished cottage with quality fittings. Secluded and giving you the feeling of away from it all. Lovely log fire to light on an evening. The property is within 30 minutes drive of many attractions.

Point Cottage was perfect for a quiet peaceful holiday. Cosy, comfortable and clean. The garden was a good size and secure. Ideally situated next to the bridle way, we had a choice of many local and beautiful walks using the public footpaths in the area. If you are looking for a holiday where you hardly see a sole, yet the local pub is only 10 minutes walk away, then this is it!

Rated by Mr Hood reviewed on 6th September 2013

The cottage was a beautiful, cosy character cottage, located in a lovely rural area with plenty of walks and only a short drive from Hereford and plenty of pubs and restaurants.

Rated by Mrs Rees reviewed on 24th August 2013

The general welcoming feeling of the cottage; it was like a home from home, with pretty much everything there that we needed, and it was very comfortable. We liked the fact that it was a detached property with its own enclosed garden; it made it very peaceful.

The cottage is nicely isolated and near a footpath that was good for walking the two small dogs we had taken with us. It was very well equipped and the owner had obviously taken a lot of care in fitting the cottage out. As a family we were pleased and thank you.

This was a delightful cottage. Warm and cosy. We had a wonderful time. The cottage is so peaceful. Fantastic!

Rated by Mr Hilliam reviewed on 22nd February 2013

The position of the cottage being so remote and having an enclosed garden was great for dogs. The cottage was warm, well appointed and cosy. The outbuilding was great for storing muddy boots and having a hose to clean the dog was a bonus. Also the use of the washing machine was a great help in dealing with wet muddy walking clothes. A lovely property that I would highly recommend.

Rated by Mr Throsby reviewed on 19th February 2013

Really well revamped cottage with excellent sized fully enclosed garden for the dog. Excellent facilities for barbecue and owners extremely friendly and accommodating. Would definitely consider again as while slightly isolated location makes it really personal but still within 2 mins walk of the pub. Only tiny downer was it could probably do with a slightly bigger TV for the evenings in.

From the moment we pulled up on the drive, it felt as if we'd come home. Point cottage is extremely comfortable and tastefully decorated, with a pleasant garden big enough for the kids to burn off some steam. The owners are very friendly and eager to make your holiday experience as pain-free as possible. Indeed, we have never rented a holiday cottage so well stocked (even cleaning equipment, barbeque tools and logs for the fire). If there was one negative it was the lack of a freezer but even this wasn't disastrous; after all, Hereford is only a short drive away. We would highly recommend Point cottage to anyone wanting to explore the myriad delights of Herefordshire - especially anyone with an interest in nature.

Lovely rural cottage set just outside a peaceful village. Owner on hand when required otherwise left alone to reflect the peace and quiet. Great enclosed garden for dog. Massive outbuilding for storage or relaxing. Only criticism is that as we stayed for 2 weeks a freezer would have been nice as there are no shops in the village. Would certainly return.
