The charming country town of North Tawton quietly rests amidst lush green fields, high hedgerows and winding lanes, just eight miles north of historic Okehampton. Nestling between the high, rugged tors of Dartmoor and the wide sandy beaches and rolling surf of the North Devon coast, this delightful town boasts picturesque thatched cottages and quaint pubs. The surrounding countryside is ideal for walking and cycling, with many pretty little villages dotted throughout the area, and several excellent coarse fishing lakes and rivers, quality golf courses, and a number of National Trust properties within easy reach. There are few better spots from which to experience the joys of beautiful Devon.
Devon, with its quiet country lanes, patchwork of lush green fields and sleepy villages is not to be missed. Stately home lovers will be spoiled and why not finish with a scrumptious Devonshire cream tea?
No cleaning materials provided i.e washing up liquid, washing sponges so take your own. Do not take for granted a welcome pack but have always received one and been very appreciative. Usually at least a pint of milk is provided but not here so again take your own. Sofa in lounge extremely uncomfortable. Bedroom quite cosy and bed comfortable. Good, hot shower but could do with some maintenance.
My mum and I needed a getaway; this little gem was found by my son. My mum and I, accompanied by our dogs Norman and Ollie loved every moment of our stay. Set on a working farm on a beautiful estate, we soaked up the tranquility and breathing views. Beautiful walks - super quaint cottage with lovely log burner and welcoming hosts. Somewhere I would love to return to. We highly recommend The Old Laundry.
Beautiful cottage on a large country estate with a farm. Amazing countryside around, welcoming owners with an amusing menagerie of animals including a very friendly peacock. Walks galore all around. A great base for travelling & visiting north & south Devon.
Enjoyed a 7 night stay in this peaceful haven. Made to feel very welcome. A great location to be able to head to the north and south coastlines in equal measure and enjoy local eateries. Visited the villages of Beer and Port Isaac, also The Devon Guild, Dartington glass and much more. Great fish & chips in nearby North Tawton and a cafe serving Sunday lunch - joy.
A very stylish cottage beautifully designed. On a estate with stunning gardens. Very warm and the beds are comfortable. Friendly and helpful owners. Also a very friendly cat and dog. Highly recommended.
We picked this location as it is central for north and south of Devon. And about 2 miles from the local village. The roads are very narrow with high hedges but after the second day we got used to it. A lot of roads in Devon are like this it is just how it is but well worth it to get the the places that you want to visit. On arrival we were warmly welcomed with scones and cream and jam all made by the owners fair hands. My wife assured me they were very very tasty. The cottage is much bigger on the inside than the photo I had seen would suggest. There is very clever use of space its airy and fresh and every thing we needed for our holiday. Pets are allowed big bonus for us as the hairy bairns are our priority. Keep in mind this cottage is in the middle of a working estate so there are other animals on the go dogs cats peacock and Guinea fowl to name a few the latter sleep in the cherry tree in front of the cottage and were better to watch than the tv. The peacock is also very funny and I feel he is in charge of the yard. The cottage has wifi and as its newly refurbished it is well insulated so our phones got no signal (02) inside but 4G outside if you have wifi calling on your phone that solves that issue. There are numerous walks on the estate and the workers I met were all very friendly and approachable Brillo was amazing he is a must to look out for. I would recommend this cottage if your into chilled holidays and dont mind travelling to visit places Dartmoor and exmoor are close by as are sea side resorts we did a lot of travelling in our week and returning to the cottage was brilliant for switching off in the evening. Oh and you.must try the fish and chip shop in the village! Thanks for a fab week
We had a lovely welcome to the Old Laundry Cottage at Ashridge Court Farm with delicious scones, jam and clotted cream! The cottage is beautiful and felt bigger than I had thought it would be by the photographs. It had everything we needed for a lovely weeks stay. The bed is very comfortable and there is a handy toilet downstairs as well as the shower room upstairs. The utility room has a freezer and bins for recycling as well as a washing machine and tumble dryer. There is a quality feel here from the wine glasses to the towels and bed linen and everything in between. The cottage is centrally located in Devon and handy for day trips to the villages and beaches on the north coast as well as the south coast and not too far away is Dartmoor. It is a lovely place to return to after a day exploring Devon. We were entertained by the Guinea fowl who passed by frequently and also Mr P the peacock, and had some lovely walks around the grounds. The fish and chips from Graylings in North Tawton are great!
