Located on Holy Island, three miles from Trearddur Bay, Rhoscolyn is a small village with a church and primary school and is the most southerly place on Holy Island. Rhoscolyn also offers an excellent pub on the lane down to the beach, which is renowned for its gastro food, and the beach itself with its slipway, ideal for small dinghies and power boats, is a popular family destination throughout the summer owing to the sheltered cove and gently sloping sands. Also excellent cliff-top walks can be enjoyed and an abundance of wildlife can be seen, often including seals on the headland. Just two miles away is the village of Valley, which has a Post Office, chemist, shops and eating places, plus the nearby resort of Trearddur Bay is situated on the western shore of the island and is truly beautiful with a great sweep of low grassy coastline indented with rocky coves and fine Blue Flag sandy beaches. There are shops, pubs and restaurants in Trearddur Bay itself and nearby Holyhead offers a wider range of amenities, including a very good leisure centre, supermarkets, harbour front, a marina, the world’s second longest breakwater and exciting day trips to Dublin on the ferry. Watersports, bathing, sailing, windsurfing and horse riding are the main activities in the summer months, plus golfers will enjoy the excellent Holyhead 18 hole links golf course, and the area is also a great place for nature lovers with renowned birdwatching at the South Stack Lighthouse RSPB Reserve. An excellent location with plenty to see and do!

Reviews

We love this house and have stayed a few times but each time we are a bit disappointed about the windows not opening properly, duvets too thick etc. I would recommend it but if you’re staying in warm weather take your own duvet! It’s the most stunning house in an even more stunning setting but it needs a bit of TLC.

We stayed here with our family, and it had the potential to be a fantastic holiday home, but there were quite a few things just not great. Windows all sealed upstairs, so no fresh air. Shower broken downstairs, came to repair but was only a bit of a temporary fix, and went again the day after. Broadband was only usable in the main room and kitchen, didn’t reach upstairs. We found menai holiday cottages very unhelpful and quite stuck up. Oven didn’t work, toaster broken, had to wait 2 days for someone to come out to sort that.

We stayed for a week in sept to celebrate my mums 80th. This house was chosen as it had a downsatirs en suite so she wouldnt have to climb the stairs. A number of issues arose -only one of the upstairs windows would open-this had been noted and mentioned by previus occupants. If it had been a hot july week it would have been a real issue. Some portable electric fans had been provided for the bedrooms ,but they were noisy and not really fit for purpose. The downstairs en suite shower was broken - a plumber did arrive to look at it after 2 dys and provide a remedial solution. One upsairs bedroom had no curtain pole/curtains -they were left lying outside the room. No intructions for the central heating could be found. The position of the house is great. The lounge and woodburner were a great focal point. We felt let down as it could be a very specail spot but for what was quite an expensive week it should have been better.
