From heather-clad moors and limestone scars, to market towns and the steady pace of country life - the sublime Dales await you! Where else in Britain is it as satisfying to sit and do nothing as it is to explore the numerous pursuits on offer?
This selfcatering accommodation is very well cared for, complete kitchen, good matrass on the bed, comfortable sittingroom with woodstove. A surprising welcome was found in the fridge: wine, cheese and a fruitcake. Thank you! But beware of the fact that the cottage is part of an active farm with farming life, so flies, smell, tractor noise, etc.and the views are blocked by waste bins and your parked car right in front of your window. So the picture on the website doesn't comply with the real situation . At the back, in view from the kitchen window there is a dog pin with 2 pitiable sheepdogs who sit there most of the time being bored en anxiously waiting for attention and exercise. A sorry view.. So that, and the bad weather, spoiled our stay somewhat. Nevertheless we enjoyed the gorgeous surroundings, a perfect spot to explore the Dales.
My husband (of 52 years) & I have had at least one self catering holiday a year & although we have stayed in lovely places we have never returned to the same place twice. I was also manager of our Visitor Centre, so know a little about accommodations We have now booked for the third consecutive year at Church Farm Cottage. It’s situation is idyllic on the banks of the river in the glorious Dales, right on the Dales Way. The hamlet consists of a handful of houses, an historic church, a wonderful pub (The George) & the farm. The cottage is immaculate & is always warm & welcoming. The goody hamper is exceptional but the jewel in the crown is Gill who is a delight & the perfect hostess.
What a find! This is a lovely cottage in a beautiful peaceful location and just a couple of minutes walk to the local pub and 20 minute walk into Buckton. We were met by Gill when we arrived, very friendly and really welcoming and she had left a lovely welcome pack for us (including wine and home made buns!). This is our first time away this summer so we’re really pleased that the house was absolutely spotless with hands sanitiser, sponges, cloths etc all provided too. The cottage is a lovely size for 2 people - big lounge with comfy sofas and a log burner to chill after walking and huge bedroom with comfy bed and everything you could need in the kitchen . Very tranquil with lovely views of the Dales, with sheep and rabbits in the fields and the gentle sound of the river Wharfe.
