Location Details

Lying on Yorkshire's spectacular Heritage Coastline, Sandsend is the ideal place for a family holiday with its award winning, wide sweeping beaches, rock pools and dramatic cliffs. Indeed this part of the coastline is known locally as the Dinosaur Coast because of the many fossils found here. In the season, beachside stalls offer everything from light snacks and drinks to boats, buckets and spades! Children will enjoy damming the little beck where it crosses the beach to form a freshwater lagoon - great (and safe) for paddling and boating! For the more energetic the village sits on the lovely long distance Cleveland Way Trail, which offers great off-road cycling along the disused coastal railway as well as breathtaking clifftop walks. The National Trust now own the nearby headland, Sandsend Ness, where there is a delightful nature trail in the old quarry pits. A special place with something for everyone!

Reviews

Delightful little hamlet within walking distance of cafes, pubs and restaurants. The bus stop is nearby for travel to Staithes or Whitby, From the moment we stepped into “The Cottage” it had the WOW factor. The quality is evident with everything the owners have accomplished in turning the premises into a home. The rear patio and garden is a joy and benefits from late afternoon sunshine. The views from the front take in the valley and the sea. Thank you for a memorable stay. Doug & Judith.

The Cottage is a stunning period property which has been expertly renovated to an exceptionally high standard. Immaculate. A luxurious retreat for two. The gardens are beautiful, whilst the setting affords fine views of a quintessentially English hamlet. The property is accessed by a series of steps cut into the hillside. The excellent beach is just a few minutes walk away. The owners were very kind and attentive in organising our arrival. One of the best coastal cottages we’ve ever stayed in. Already planning a return visit. Thank you.

We were due to stay her on the 12th -19th of September 2020 but due to Sykes taking over Yorkshire Coastal Cottage they did not take our final payment and cancelled our booking !! But we went to Sandsend for a visit as have visited before and also to see the “Cottage “ as it is called. There is a Cottage on the lower level of Sandsend but nothing like the Cottage that we had rented it turns out the cottage is over a bridge with 4 steps and then up the hill which is called tea pot hill no mention of that in the name of the cottage !! To get up the hill is 28 steps so you have to park your car in the parking area and climb those 28 steps every time you use your car. Also it states 2 in advert but only one. No mention of this with the cottage description!!
