Stayed in area over the last nine years and this is the most comfortable, well equipped accommodation we have stayed in. Everything you could need for a relaxing comfortable break owners could not do enough, thank you. Would like to stay again and would highly recommend. Thank you.

Had a great time in Wigtown and Hillcrest was perfect accommodation. It is exceptionally clean and we had one of the best breakfasts tailored to our needs. The hosts are very welcoming and great to talk to. There is a lot to do around Wigtown and coming from Australia, we found the area extremely interesting. Unbelievable range of book shops in the small village. Highly recommend this hotel.

We stayed at Hillcrest during the book festival. Not only was the stay wonderful (friendliest hosts, gorgeous food, lavish room with a super king size bed) but we were lucky enough to find the book festival putting all sorts of authors and other interesting people here. We arrived and were shown directly to our room (Burns). It was wonderful: enormous super king size bed, comfy chairs and a full complement of teas and coffees. From the window, a view across the sea. Dinner in the evening quickly followed: my vegetarian partner well catered for and some wonderful food. I have not slept better in years than on the wonderful bed. At breakfast, there were many options and each one of them cooked with aplomb. I cannot rate this place highly enough. Very relaxing, wonderful hosts and I can’t wait to come back!

We had a great time at Hillcrest. Couldn't fault the accommodation- it is perfect. The bathroom was the best I've ever been in bar none! Easy walk into Wigtown and all its bookshops which my husband loved. Andy and Nic allowed us to bring our two small dogs who also had a lovely holiday with nice walks nearby.Wonderful countryside all around and beautiful coastline; very friendly people also the weather was stunning which was a bonus. We were grateful for the car's air conditioning which must be rather unusual on a UK holiday!

I should start by apologising to Nic and Andy for inexplicably calling their cottage Craigmount. From the moment you get out of the car [right outside the door and very welcome in a storm] this place is perfect. The welcome pack is very generous and sets the standard for the property. The lounge is huge - with very comfortable settee and comfy chairs. The heating is very good and the décor is excellent. All of the equipment for self catering is immediately available and in pristine condition. The bedroom is spacious with a huge superking size bed and great heating and lighting. Both the lounge and the bedroom benefit from large big screen televisions. The walk in shower and bath in the en-suite are very efficient and, again, the facility is so well appointed. We've used a lot of self catering facilities around Scotland but this has to be at the very top end of facilities. The additional benefit of being able to eat in the Guest House adjoining the property is a huge bonus and the hosts are very accommodating and friendly people clearly dedicated to making your stay as good as it could possibly be. We'll be back.

Not the usual sort of self-catering flat! This is more like a five-star hotel suite, with the extra added luxury of a snazzy well-equipped kitchen. Not the sort of place you'd expect in homely Wigtown. I was the debut guest in the brand-new apartment for a couple of nights during the book festival, and I was floored by the quality of the fittings. Giant TVs in living room and bedroom, spectacular bathroom with separate shower and bath (bath perfect for lying in and reading day's purchases from the town's famous bookshops), and space galore. Also the biggest bed I have ever slept in. The apartment has a separate entrance, but is attached to Hillcrest House B&B where I have stayed before and which itself is absolutely lovely. A few minutes' walk from the shops, and also a few minutes from the walks and bird hide of Wigtown Harbour. Incredible. Thank you Nic and Andy!
