On a chilly evening, switch on the electric fire for some added warmth and nestle down into the plush settee in front of a favourite film for a completely care-free evening. As the night draws to a close, head into the bedroom to rest your head on the king-size bed after an adventure filled day. In the morning, jump out of bed and into the en-suite bathroom shower to wake up your senses and begin the day, with the property also benefiting from a separate cloakroom with WC accessed from the living space. On a summer morning take your coffee outside onto the veranda, where you can gaze out onto the grounds from one of the swing seats. If you're sat out in the evening, either here or at the garden table and chairs on the lawn, you might catch sight of some deer, foxes and other wildlife seen before within the owners' grounds, a special experience you won't find in most other properties. You're close to all of the local amenities, being surrounded by these lovely acres it's easy to forget, so if you don't feel like cooking in the evening, take a stroll over to one of the nearby pubs that serve up lovely classic dishes. The Brandon Country Park and the Thetford Forest Park are also within walking distance, perfect for walkers or cyclists, and for those thrill-seekers you can swing through the trees at Go Ape Thetford, a 3.4-mile drive from The Retreat, and explore the forest from above. Spend a brilliant holiday at The Retreat and get to know this beautiful area of Suffolk.

We have just got back from spending 3 nights at the beautiful retreat. We had a relaxing time with our 2 dogs. The retreat is cosy, warm, well planned out and very spacious. The bed is extremely comfortable and our dogs were also catered for too. Carol & Ron have given it the personal touch and welcome you as friends. They gave me a beautiful birthday gift too. Seeing our dogs have the freedom they did in a safe and secure area was wonderful. We enjoyed watching all the wildlife in the grounds whilst sitting on the veranda with a coffee. I didn't think you could mentally and physically wear out a Border Collie and German Shepherd but they were. Our dogs laid on the grass as we loaded the car and refused to get up or get into the car. Lots of beautiful walks all local & shops as well. We will definitely be going back.
My husband and I stayed at The Retreat for a week in November, and we have to say it was amazing. We stepped into the lodge and it felt like we actually were in Africa. The place was amazing and so comfortable. We took our dog Maya and even she was catered for, there were throws for her so she didn’t have to sit on the floor, and towels to dry her down when she got wet. The owners Carol and Ron were lovely, they greeted us when we arrived and explained everything to us, and were they to say goodbye to. We arrived as strangers but left as friends. They even put a little Christmas tree outside for us along with a birthday present on the porch step when we came back from our day trip. I would highly recommend the Retreat and we are also looking forward to returning.
We have had an amazing week! The lodge itself was an ideal size for the two of us and our dog and has everything you could possibly need - if you can think of anything it hasn’t, the owners, Carol and Ron are more than happy to oblige! The grounds are fabulous. Jasper loved the freedom to roam and explore all the different sights and smells which he did with great enthusiasm. There are lovely, various, carefully thought out areas within the grounds for you to sit and reflect - we even managed to light the fire pit on our final night! The nature we saw was spell-bounding! We particularly loved sitting out from dusk to darkness to watch out for the regular visits of the deer and foxes. The swing chairs on the veranda were a godsend after a long day walking. We had good weather but the one evening it did rain, we were still able to sit out with a glass of wine and and not get wet, while enjoying the views and the peace and quiet. The sunbeds (towels provided) were also a welcome touch and were well used. Carol and Ron were excellent hosts, looking after us extremely well and making us feel very welcome without imposing on us at all! This is certainly the most dog friendly place we have stayed - there was nowhere (both inside and out) where Jasper was not welcome. (Even on the furniture, as long as you use the provided throws). We have loved our week here and certainly feel we have been on a ‘retreat’!
I stayed here for Christmas very clean throughout Carol also said that it hasn’t been long built and it’s definitely noticeable as soon as I walked in there was a pleasant new smell it’s very quiet surrounded with wildlife sounds just what you want if you’re looking for peace and quiet. Very friendly and helpful owners who were really helpful from arrival to leaving. There’s also a Tesco and fuel station 5 minutes away which came in really handy! Overall couldn’t fault anything the bed was so comfy shower room stunning the kitchen and utensils all top quality definitely 100% would come back.
Back from our 4 night stay at The Retreat. One word...Wow. The directions given to us by Carol the owner were spot on. Very easy to find. The Retreat was just perfect, loved the safari theme, everything you could need was there. Very clean, cosy, set in lovely grounds and just so peaceful. The amenities are five minutes walk away for food and the local pub which, we would highly recommend for a night out. If you just wanted a relaxing night then a night in at The Retreat this is for you. The veranda is just perfect with the hammocks to just sit and enjoy the views and the quietness with a glass of wine. There is nothing i would change about The Retreat other than staying longer. The owners Carol and Ron are just a lovely couple, on hand should you need anything but they also respect your space. Very down to earth couple who made us very welcome. We just wish we could have stayed longer but we will on our next visit. The hard work that has been put into building The Retreat has paid off as it has been very well done. Don't change anything Carol and Ron just keep doing what you are doing. If you are looking for a peaceful 'Retreat' then look no further. Sharon and Nick. Hemel Hempstead. September 2019.
