Have just returned from a few days at this lovely, quirky apartment. So comfortable and cosy, with everything you could possibly want. Great location with a short walk to the beach and local amenities. Will definitely return in the near future.
This apartment is in a lovely position in the harbour with parking right outside the front door or in a car park 50 yards away. Don't park across the road on the harbour side as we were informed that tickets get issued if you park there. We arrived late afternoon and gained access via a key lock as per instructions. The living room has two 2 seater sofas, large TV and EE broadband which works very well. The kitchen area is up a couple of steps, it is small but more than adequate and has everything you need for your stay. The round dining table seats 4 people but is a little cramped in the area of the kitchen. The only problem in the kitchen was that the cooker hood unit fell off if you switched on the extractor fan. The smaller bedroon is just off the kitchen with it's own on suite bathroom and dressing room. The other bedroom is off the living room and larger with a very unusal 'cave' style wet room shower which is huge and lovely to use. The double bed in the larger bedroom was comfortable but our family member in the smaller room, which was also a double bed found the bed to be hard and uncomfortable. Very shortly after arriving we noticed what appeared to be dog's hair on the pillows and bed spread of the bed in the larger bedroom. on pulling the bedcloths back we found even more hair on the top and bottom sheet. I called the management company on the number provided and explained the problem. The lady whose name I forget to get, dealt with the problem straight away and with 30 minutes she arrived with another lady with a full set of bed linen and changed all the bedding. They apologised that we had to call them in but we were very happy with their quick response The only other problem we had during our stay here was that we discovered that on going out for the day and closing windows etc resulted on our return to a very unpleasant dog smell in the living room. My wife cleaned through and hoovered the rug in the living room in an attempt to get rid of the smell but we never managed to clear ir completely. I guess this is a result of many previous guests having had dogs with them. We had intended leaving a note in the visitors book about the dog smell and cooker hood but both my wife and I thought the other had written it so we had not made the owners/management company aware. Even with these problems mentioned we would book again and also recommend the Captains Bank with a hope that the dog smell will be dealt with once they read this review
This apartment has everything you could wish for from a well stocked kitchen with all the utensils you could wish for, hairdryers in both bedrooms and the luxury towels provided for use. The view form the dining table through the stable door was perfect. Any issues are dealt with immediately by the owners in a lovely friendly manner. We loved it that much we've booked to come back next year and can't wait.
As a regular reviewer on Trip advisor I am always fair in my reviews and base all on 3 criteria, facility, ambience and VFM. So at the outet let me say that the accommodation has exactly what the overview says. It is located in a lovely spot overlooking the harbour and handy for all things porthmadog and nearby beach walk. So that ticks a box for facility. As for ambience it is an old granary warehouse with thick walls and challenges. So if you want a location with 2 bedrooms en suite and basic kitchen then this ticks a box. However I judge this on paying £1000 for a week and therefore make the following suggestions for the property. Kitchen : good selection of accessories would benefit from, handle for the grill pan, four slice toaster, a fridge freezer that is big enough for four people. Kitchen bowl. Dining area : table is too bulky . A square table with bench seat 1 side would be a much better fit. Lounge: Sofas looked impressive, awfully uncomfortable. Shame no effort has been made to unblock the fireplace. Accommodation generally needs attention to handles on the doors, several coming off. Bedroom 1 ; miniscule wardrobe space. Bedding needs to be sharper/fresher.. liked the blue bedding look but definitely tired. Bathroom ; looks impressive..Good job I'm only 5'7" smacked my head three times on the small entrance. Big shower, sloping tiles made standing difficult. Musty towels as no ventilation. Was the washing machine for use ?? Difficult to tell with access. Bulb out on main bathroom light Bedroom 2: previous review asked the question of the lean to and glass/plastic ceiling. Not sure if this was even a partof the property but needs to be more substantial if it is. I don't think the door leading out to the mould covered green pipe is part of the wardrobe. Lock it or lock it. For a lockdown property the detail on faulty handles and bulbs is disappointing. To arrive at 17.30 to still find the cleaners blocking spaces is disappointing. I enjoyed my stay .. does it need detail... yes... was it VFM ... no. With changes would I book it again ?
Accommodation in lovely setting let down by need for thorough cleaning: Baked on food in microwave. Oven so greasy it set off smoke detectors. Ice-box so iced up the door would not close. Drink spills on bedside cabinet. Floors not swept, leaving dust and previous occupants hair. Shower floor grubby. It would appear the only thing that was done between rentals was to provide clean linen, with no thought put into the extra cleaning that one would expect given the current situation. Annex next to bedroom to use as wardrobe so damp that wall ornaments were mouldy. Plastic roof of the above so noisy that any rain in the night made sleeping impossible. Batteries flat in tv remotes. Having booked through Sykes in the past and been very happy with the properties, I was very disappointed to find no thought or effort had gone in to making us feel welcome. Very Poor.
Perfect location, however there are a few issues... lean too damp, accommodation smelt of dog (especially the rug In the living room), extractor fan broken in kitchen, second bedroom small, noisy beds/ uncomfortable mattress, no games/ books as advertised, mouldy decorations in bedroom 2, no light in laundry room.... all in all, very expensive for what it is!
Right on the harbour with great sea and mountain views. Apartment well equipped with any previous niggles ironed out, 3rd visit ,4th now being booked
