The lovely village of West Woodburn lies amidst the deep Rede Valley and was once an important resting point in Roman times for travellers on route to Scotland from York. The village hosts a welcoming pub and a Post Office selling basic supplies, whilst visitors can also explore the remains of one of the outpost forts of Hadrian's Wall that passes nearby. The historic village Otterburn, with its world-famous Woollen Mill and Shop is just a short drive away and is popular with walkers and cyclists alike, whilst the nearby, beautiful Kielder Forest affords fantastic fishing, boating, horse riding and nature watching opportunities. The market town of Hexham is 20 miles away, plus the vibrant city of Newcastle upon Tyne just 35 miles away has the renowned Metro Shopping Centre and excellent night life. This superb location has something to please everyone.
Northumberland is a heady combination of fishing villages, market towns, sandy beaches, magnificent castles and historic Hadrian's Wall, tied together by beautiful countryside and abundant wildlife
Just got back from a lovely week here, so comfortable and homely, everything you need is here. The Bay Horse pub a few doors away so friendly and nice food, dog friendly too. I'd recommend doing an online food delivery as nearest town Hexham is about 20miles away, we got a tesco one. There's Billinghan village about 10 minute drive for the co op. We took kitchen roll, toilet roll, salt pepper, cooking oil, dishwasher tablets. The welcome pack was the best we've ever had, so generous. Laura and Paul are great hosts and there to help with anything you need. The garden and hot tub is lovely and relaxing, fully enclosed for those with dogs and a bonus was the parking space at the side of the cottage. We'll definitely be returning.
Stayed in this beautiful cottage ,lovely and clean the owner checks the hot tub every day without bothering you. When we arrived we had a lovely basket left for us with drinks and snacks which was lovely the garden secure if you have a dog .This cottage would be great in summer we had a lot of rain. I would definitely recommend this cottage
We are a family of 4 (ADULTS) who have just had 5 fantastic day's at this gem of a cottage in West Woodburn, the cottage is furnished to a very high standard with all kitchen amenities you will need, the bathroom has the most powerfullest of showers I have ever used, and the beds are the most comfortablest ever. The cottage is in an idyllic village with great views and walks on your doorstep, and of course the village pub only a couple of hundred yards away (THE BAY HORSE INN) Great for exploring the countryside with visits to kielder a must (kielder bird of prey centre a must) and then after a day of exploring retreat back to base and enjoy the great hot tub in the garden whilst watching the star's. A fantastic time we have had with the owner Paul and Laura being fantastic host's right on the doorstep if needed but never bother you. We cannot recommend this property higher enough and look forward to seeing you again Frank and Susan Derick and Karin. And nearly forgot to say the most welcome pack ever when we arrived, much appreciated. Thanks again.
