Location Details

The small village of Newby Bridge takes its name from the five arched stone bridge built in 1651 over the River Leven. The famous Furness Railway, one of Britain's oldest working standard gauge steam railways, runs between Haverthwaite and Newby Bridge. Visit the Lakeside Hotels and enjoy magnificent views across Windermere and the surrounding fells, or enjoy the Aquarium of the Lakes, where the naturally themed habitats, bring the history of the Lakes vividly to life. Bowness-on-Windermere provides a lovely day out, plus the picturesque village of Hawkshead still retains the charm and character that so endeared it to its most famous residents - William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter, and admire the views at nearby Gummer's How.

Impressive mountains, open fells and clear-water lakes, the Lake District has it all. From walking in the mountains to exhilarating watersports or just a gentle cruise on a steam-powered yacht, Cumbria is the perfect holiday destination.

Beautiful house and garden. Equipped to the highest standard. Have never stayed anywhere so well equipped. Stunning views, easy access to lakes. Owner Jane made our family very welcome with some little extras for my special birthday. Will definitely book again for future visits.

Absolutely stunning property in an ideal, peaceful, quiet location. Perfect host who is very willing to make your stay most enjoyable by providing information on the property and lots of local useful information. Property is very well equipped and fitted out to a very high luxurious standard, both internally and externally. Lovely welcome pack. House is located on a steep hill. Good central location with lots of options for different activities or relaxation in the area. Would definitely stay here again. Some of the activities we undertook during our stay as follows: - Devils Porridge Museum Annan Steam train from Haverthwaite to Lakeside walked to and from house. Railway station is located at the bottom of the road. Tarn Hows and Black Fell from Coniston. Walk via St John’s Helsington via Sizergh Castle environs to Levens Hall and tearoom. RSPB Leighton Moss particularly to see marsh harriers, fantastic displays. Day trip to Heysham interesting little historical village, and Morecambe Bay. Hoad Monument and canal foot Ulverston. Locals celebrated the Kings Coronation in the public park which was decorated with bunting, food, seating etc. Good day was had by all, very respectable, well behaved gathering. Onwards travel to Newcastle area to stay at another property. Visit to Beamish Museum, fantastic day out for all ages, ticket also valid for 1 year. Also did a walk at Blanchland, another interesting historical village and visited the fantastic White Monks tearoom. Great holiday.

This accommodation is top notch; luxurious, extremely well equipped and spotlessly clean. Jane was very welcoming and the welcome pack was a lovely touch too.Lots of interesting places to visit - we particularly liked the The World of Beatrix Potter in Bowness. We had a lovely holiday here - highly recommended.

On arrival we received a warm welcome from Jane, the owner of Bishop Fell. The house is beautifully presented and very well equipped with quality kitchenware and furnishings throughout the house. The layout of the house is great with plenty of space for our thee families/generations. The house is very cozy and is spotlessly clean throughout. The bathrooms and en-suite are exceptional and of a very high spec. The garden is on three levels and cleverly designed with seating on each level and we enjoyed eating outside despite it being October! Jane has even provided blankets to use outside! A picnic set of plastic plates/cups/glasses would be a great addition for families eating in the garden - especially for children. Next to the house is a small well-equipped park which our grandchildren (6 & 9 years) enjoyed several times a day. It is a real bonus as children can be easily supervised from the house. The property is in a small village and a great location for exploring the Lake District. The many walks from the house are enhanced by option of visiting Cafe Ambio en-route! Jane has provided lots of information about the local area which we found very useful and a Guest Comment book would be a good addition. Jane lives nearby and although we didn’t need to, we felt confident that she would respond to any issues arising during our stay. We also appreciated the opportunity to catch up with her on the morning of our departure. We would thoroughly recommend this property to others.

Jane is the perfect host! Before we even arrived, she couldn't do enough to help us. Due to unforseen circumstances, we couldn't make the original date and we rang Jane to see if there was a possibility of moving the booking (if not we'd have lost the money). She was so understanding and offered us an alternative date. We booked through booking.com and she helped us liaise with them, even when it proved difficult. Booking.com mentioned a fee and Jane wavered this too! From the second we arrived, we had a warm welcome including treats for our stay. The house was perfect: decorated to the highest of standards, very spacious, exceptionally clean and included everything we needed. We asked Jane about restaurants nearby, she rang us with multiple suggestions. Unfortunately, the local area had a power cut and Jane contacted us apologising and asking whether we were okay - we actually weren't even affected. We were so thankful and would book again without hesitation. Thank you Jane and family, we've had an amazing time! Hope to see you again!

To give an honest review I will give the accommodation credit it was well equipped and kept to a high standard. However that is unfortunately where it ends. Jane the host, made it perfectly clear she did not want a young group in her accommodation. We are all mid to late 20s hard working just wanting to explore. I can only describe Jane as patronising, paranoid, aggressive and untrustworthy Receiving text messages during our stay, checking up on us saying the neighbours heard the smoke alarm. It created an atmosphere like we were being watched all of the time. Then during check out we were essentially questioned about what we did, times that Jane spotted us and when we set the smoke alarm off. We were branded as liars when we said it was the toaster. We took pride in leaving the house exactly as we received it and went the extra mile to make sure it was more then enough. I then received a rather aggressive and bullying text messages falsely claiming we had burnt the bottom of her pans because the heat was too high on the induction hob. The text message was as if she had been wanting to find anything just so she could prove us wrong and prove to herself we weren't the people who we were saying we were. This was part of her aggressive text telling us also she can read our body language when speaking to us that something wasn't right. I would say you need to get your money back on who taught you because you were most certainly wrong! This is something completely unacceptable and not what a host should be doing. Jane left such a sour taste in our mouths at the end of our holiday and left us feeling so upset with your prejudice towards a younger group. This is the only thing I can assume. Anyway as a prewarning to anyone thinking of booking she will try and find anything to gain extra money from claiming 'damaged' items. Take photos of everything at the start of your stay! Rob

It was an absolute joy to spend a week at Bishop Fell and we thoroughly enjoyed our time there. Our family included me and my husband with two under 2’s plus grandparents and the property was perfectly situated for us; close proximity to many tourist spots but peaceful and tranquil on a night time. There is a park literally next door (there is an access gate in the garden) which was great for taking the twins into to keep them occupied. The cottage is recently renovated and you can tell - all appliances and kitchen utensils are up to date and there are smart TVs throughout so you don’t miss out on Netflix, prime etc (godsend with two toddlers) and we had no issue with connectivity. The views upstairs of the surrounding forestry are beautiful. It was just a shame we were so busy that we didn’t get the chance to sit in the comfy chairs and chill out - either indoors or outside. In the garden outside, for that matter, there are both a dining area and casual seating area as well as the option to use a fire pit. Overall a fantastic week and we were sorry to have to leave!

We have just returned from our family holiday at Bishop Fell. The house is stunning and Jane the lady who owns the property was very helpful both before our holiday and during. My elderly mum spent the week with us and all her needs were able to be met easily, due to bedrooms and a bathroom downnstairs. Jane left us a lovely welcome pack for our arrival, with some lovely goodies. The scenery is beautiful and to sum everthing up, our holiday was perfect. We are already looking to book for next year.

Wow! We have just returned home after having an amazing week at Bishop Fell... the house is absolutely stunning with the most incredible fixtures and fittings.. the decor throughout is beautiful and the kitchen is very well equipped with everything at the highest quality. Jane the host greeted us on arrival and provided us with a welcome hamper which was lovely ! The house is situated in a great location in the lakes for exploring, we enjoyed many walks as well as visiting Coniston, Ulverston, Windermere, Bowness-on-Windermere, Ambleside all within driving distance. We will certainly return in the future to this amazing property and will definitely recommend this wonderful place to friends and family.

Stayed at Bishop Fell for a week in July 2020. We were blown away by the quality of every element of the house. It looked fantastic in the photos but was even better in real life which is certainly very rare! Decoration throughout was beautiful and extremely well thought out. Facilities were ideal for groups/families staying together as there was plenty of space for the evenings and 3 gorgeous bathrooms. Self catered most meals most days while we stayed and found the kitchen to be exceptionally well equipped compared to many other holiday cottages I have stayed in before. Owner was really helpful with suggestions for walks and restaurants etc both before arrival and during our stay. Responded to any queries very promptly and left us a lovely welcome hamper for arrival which was much appreciated. Great location in the lakes for exploring - we enjoyed many walks while we were there and our group of 2 children, a grandparent and other family members all had a fantastic week away. Covid-19 precautions were all also dealt with in a very efficient manner. We are already thinking about when we would like to book again and would highly recommend.

Ideal for extended families and the host Jane is great and looked after us very well with a lovely package of local goodies on arrival and great communication both prior to and after our stay. Book now, you will not be disappointed!!

We stayed in this beautiful property for New Year and so pleased we chose Bishop Fell. Newly renovated and furnished to an amazingly high standard, start to finish, the owners have literally thought of everything. Perfect for larger families, and having bedrooms downstairs also was a plus with great disability access, shower and we on ground floor. Great walks on doorstep, lovely pubs and restaurants close by. We would highly recommended and most definitely shall return. The owner delivered us warm home baked mince pies and a wonderful bottle of champagne upon arrival - lovely lady and great service.
