The village of Cartmel is renowned as the prettiest village in the Lake District. The village features walks, cobbled streets with antique shops, a gift shop, traditional pubs and the Michelin Star awarded L'Enclume restaurant.
Impressive mountains, open fells and clear-water lakes, the Lake District has it all. From walking in the mountains to exhilarating watersports or just a gentle cruise on a steam-powered yacht, Cumbria is the perfect holiday destination.
My partner, golden retriever and I had a lovely couple of days in the Milkmaid's Parlour cottage. Although the accommodation was slightly dusty, the space had a lot of personality. The location is perfect for those who wish to explore the Lake District, as well as there being a few lovely walks accessible from the grounds. A welcoming and romantic stay, where dogs are very welcome.
This place needs refurbishing and a good regular cleaning, location is excellent but weeds growing outside the front door, a bad smell, uncomfortable furniture and generally dirty. Wouldnt stay here again.
We particularly liked the peace and quiet at Milkmaid's Parlour. There are good walks from the door and it is really good for dogs, in a handy position for getting around the Lakes . We will go again.
Perfect getaway within walking distance of Cartmel. Lovely remote cottage.
We liked the location and enjoyed this cozy and peaceful cottage.
The cottage was delightful and the surroundings were beautiful. we had a really relaxing break.
Fantastic setting with plenty of walks immediately available, don't really need the car once you're there. The house and grounds were very impressive and the accommodation is very comfortable. Everything was clean and very comfortable, feels very homely and very welcoming. Facilities listed are adequate and the atmosphere is very friendly. Our cottage had recently been updated with new bathroom and décor, the others are being done - the results are fantastic. Thoroughly recommended and will certainly be returning!
Overall the property was lovely and quaint in a great location and great views
Longlands is a very peaceful and beautiful location in a perfect holiday region. You feel like you are living in a Jane Austen novel. The walled garden is wonderful. The Milkmaid's Parlour is very comfortable and well furnished.
A lovely break in a beautiful part of the world. The owner was very helpful and sorted out minor problems. The secret garden is exquisite and deserves a lot more time than we gave it. We shall certainly stay again.
This cottage really grew on me through the week and I was sad to leave. I found it very welcoming and cosy. The location and surroundings were perfect for my dog and I.
Quiet and remote but close enough to walk in to the village
Our hopes were high on arrival, in the grounds of a country home and just a mile outside Cartmel it seemed perfect for a new year break. However the cottage although well designed needs urgent modernisation and a professional firm of cleaners appointed. The decor is circa 1990 and although that isn't too much of an issue the manky bathroom with mildewed tiles and asthmatic shower is, plus the sofa that should have been sent to the tip years ago. The cleaning isn't up to spec either with cobwebs within light fittings, blocked and greasy extractor fans. As shame because with a little tlc it could be so much better!
The cottage was lovely , in a beautiful environment and laid out very well with lots of nice features. We really enjoyed our visit but have some comments below which we feel would enhance this cottage even more.
The Milkmaid's parlour is a charming, compact cottage. It is part of a series of restored cottages. It had a lovely atmosphere and wonderful surrounding gardens - especially the walled garden. Cartmel is a very special village - especially if you like eating out, or dining in with good quality ingredients! And of course there is the sticky toffee pudding association! The main lakes of the Lake District are also readily accessible. A lovely holiday all in all.
We stayed in this cosy little cottage for our wedding anniversary and totally fell in love with it. A couple of mins drive into Cartmell to buy some presents and a nice sit outside one of the local pubs with a coffee. So peaceful and quiet and a lovely setting
It was a peaceful, gorgeous location. We look forward to another stay next year.
The grounds were amazing, truly breathtaking views. The cottage was well equipped and cosy. It was very private, and we would definitely visit the estate again. I also loved the secret garden, very romantic.
The cottage was cosy and welcoming and the grounds of the house stunning.
Property and surrounding area; idyllic. Beautiful white-washed cottage. Everything you need there for a very relaxing holiday.
The peace and quiet, very friendly atmosphere.
The setting was super. Nice and quiet, lovely views and good walks from the back door. Handy for south lakes.
We wanted a relaxing holiday and this holiday ticked all the right boxes. Everyone we met was friendly, the area was amazing and we are planning to go back. Many thanks.
Property set in an idyllic rural setting. Village with shop and pub within walking distance. Overall a great place to relax and get away from it all.
