I stayed here with my mum and my boyfriend for 7 nights. We were really impressed with the cottage, it’s so pretty and will be lovely during summer. We would say to watch out when going into or reversing into the drive, the bend on the road right next to it is difficult to see up for oncoming cars. We arrived a day early accidentally, but the hosts were fine with it as the people before us had left a day early luckily. They were helpful, and brought over a bottle of wine and daffodils which were lovely. We then paid a reduced night rate for the extra night which was very kind. The cottage has three beds (one king, a small double and a single), an open plan kitchen dining room, two toilets (one with bath and shower), two sofas and a lovely fire. (Do not expect to all be able to shower/have a bath in one morning or evening, the hot water runs out after about 2 people and doesn’t heat up again for a while) It’s in a great position to go exploring, about a 20 minute away radius to places such as Newton Abbott, Paignton, Torquay, and many other villages and towns. Although the weather wasn’t great, we still had a great time looking around everywhere and really loved the zoo in Paignton. The main bedroom is lovely and the bed was very nice, however we found in the second bedroom the double isn’t very big and neither my boyfriend or I slept particularly well due to the bed being a bit uncomfortable. Secondly, we found the living room, bathrooms and kitchen very comfortable, completely functional and warm, however we didn’t agree with reviews on other websites such as Booking.com and Sykes with cleanliness being a full score as certain things such as jars, the shower and bath, toothbrush holders, oven gloves, rug in lounge, grout on worktops in kitchen, drawers and fan hood weren’t particularly clean (I work in hospitality and wouldn’t of been impressed if my coworkers or I cleaned at that standard). We also found things such as the tea, sugar, washing liquid, (was no coffee but a coffee pot), and dishwasher tablets was not enough to accommodate for even a couple days let alone a week. The cleaning box under the sink wasn’t fully equipped or useful, especially considering the hosts expect you to leave the cottage clean and tidy. We found the whole check out requirements odd (stripping all beds and putting all sheets and towels in bath) and definitely nothing I have experienced considering the fact I have worked cleaning cottages and hotels for 6 years. My mum found the host was rude, coming over the morning of our checkout an hour before checkout time and rudely reminding us we needed to check out at 10. We had a lovely time exploring Devon from this cottage and was very comfortable and relaxing, however these points make it unable to score full stars on this review.
