Reviews

We liked the peace and quiet, warm and comfy to come back to. Lots of good walks and plenty to do and see. Well hidden away, but good shops and places to eat a short drive away.

The cottage was delightful, in a lovely central but quiet location and we were very reluctant to leave the cottage it was so lovely. The cottage was immaculate. Everything was straight forward with the key and arrival. Expected the noise from the farm and it wouldn't put them off from going back again. Well priced. Decor and fixtures and fittings were great.

We really enjoyed our stay in Swallows barn and would recommend this to anyone wanting to stay somewhere peaceful in the peak district. The cottage was lovely and had everything we needed. The location is beautiful with the Monsal trail just on the doorstep. We enjoyed visits to Monsal head, Edale, Castleton, Bakewell and Buxton. This was the perfect getaway and we will be back!

Swallows Barn is the perfect place for quietness and solitude and a centre for exploring the intimacy of the Derbyshire Dales, Millers Dale in particular, and then returning to a warm cosy cottage with a wood-burning stove. It was also a pleasure to be among farm animals in the adjacent fields. Walking back from the Red Lion in Litton at night time was a treat, especially given the clear night sky.

The best cottage in regards to the quality and cleanliness, we have ever rented. We will definitely be going back, loved it.

Rated by Ms King reviewed on 28th July 2014

The cottage was in an idyllic setting for walkers; a short distance from the Monsal Trail and plenty of dales. Set on a working farm and seeing the cows go past for milking every morning and the various wild birds on the tree feeders in the garden made it a perfect setting. The cottage was finished to a very high standard with everything we required to make a perfect holiday. The icing on the cake was the lovely weather.

Beautiful property, excellently refurbished - would appeal to everyone, young, old, city people etc. The pictures don't do the cottage justice really. We loved the cosiness and seclusion.

Rated by Mrs Dean reviewed on 27th January 2014

The cottage was beautiful and cosy. It had everything we needed to cook and spend nights in in front of the wood burning stove. We loved being in the midst of beautiful countryside, the views of tall trees and steep grassy hill sides from the bedroom were amazing.

A lovely well equipped cottage in a quiet rural location. Very clean and cosy. Watched the cows every morning and evening on their daily commute to be milked - a lovely treat if you are a townie.

Everything about the cottage and the location is great! Our second visit this year, and the cottage is still of a very high standard, well thought through décor and accessories. Comfortable, cosy and warm after a long walk.

This was the best cottage holiday we have had. The owner had gone to great lengths to provide a welcoming home from home. The location was amazing. We had some brilliant walks, there was no need for much car travel. Looking forward to another visit in the not too distant future.

Rated by Mr Connolly reviewed on 17th September 2013

The cottage was extremely clean, the furnishings were modern and very tasteful, giving a feeling of luxury. The secluded position of the cottage was restful as it was extremely quiet, apart from the natural sounds of a country farm. A few easy steps down the lane afforded stunning views across the hills and into the nearby valley.

The cottage is very well presented and thought out. The location is beautiful and perfectly located for walking, particularly on the Monsal Trail. The local pub and village are very welcoming, as are the farming neighbours.

Excellent cottage, well suited to our needs with 2 bathrooms. We had our elderly mother with us and it was ideal with the bedroom with en-suite downstairs. Cottage very well situated for visits to the High Peaks and the potteries. Lots of opportunities for lovely walks plus places to go in the rain. Booking simple and accurate.

Rated by Mr Jamison reviewed on 28th May 2013

Because of very heavy snowfall we were unable to move out on arranged date. The owners were very understanding. Also local farmer and neighbours were very supportive as we started running out of food! Despite the crazy weather the cottage was excellent with very efficient heating. Would definitely book again.

The cottage was in a great location particularly for walks in this beautiful area. It was in a lovely rural area, quiet but with people around. It was always very cosy and comfortable to come back to. While being away from it all, it was also easy to access small towns and parking spots for the Monsal Trail.

Rated by Mr Whelan reviewed on 9th November 2012

Perfect, well equipped and tastefully decorated cottage. The heating worked very well as well as the wood burner, so cosy. We all enjoyed our holidays very much. I would like to keep it a secret!

A very well presented and appointed cottage ideally situated so we could walk out from there without the need of the car.

Rated by Mr Knight reviewed on 22nd October 2012

Lovely accommodation only recently finished, we were only the third guests to stay there. We chose it as it had two bedrooms and a bath so very accommodating for us and our 14 week old baby. Great location. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend this property.
