Dormouse Cottage is a delightful Lake District property that enjoys the very best of both worlds. Just a short walk from the bustling centre of Coniston village and the shores of Coniston Water, yet in absolute peace and quiet. There’s a lovely garden commanding breathtaking views over the lake from the slopes of Coniston Old Man. A perfect property for a romantic break or the ideal base to explore the area on foot or bike (or both!) This idyllic setting has to be seen to be fully appreciated. Inside the traditional cottage you’ll find flagged floors, comfy furnishings to wind down in and a comforting open fire. You also get the best of both worlds with the layout, a spacious cottage for a couple with a stunning lake view, a king size bedroom and a second single bedroom. This cottage can accommodate two guests or even a small family with an older child (min 10years old). The terraced garden with wonderful lake views is a place to enjoy al-fresco living on warm days.
Nestling at the head of Coniston Water, the pretty village of Coniston is surrounded by some of the most beautiful scenery in the Lake District National Park, making it a superb base for touring, with Hawkshead, Ambleside, Windermere and Grasmere just a short drive away. Superb walking, mountain biking and climbing are available locally on Coniston Old Man and Wetherlam, and the lovely woodland trails at Grizedale Forest. For watersports enthusiasts, the quiet lake is ideal for dinghy sailing and canoeing, whilst the less active can enjoy a leisure cruise on the beautiful steam yacht 'Gondola’, or visit Brantwood, the former home of John Ruskin. Nearby attractions include the award-winning village of Hawkshead, home of the Beatrix Potter Gallery, Tarn Hows, one of the most visited beauty spots in the country and Esthwaite Water, famous for its fishing. A first class holiday location at any time of the year.
Gorgeous Lakeland Cottage on the slopes of Coniston Old Man, beautiful terraced cottage garden, looking over the fields to Coniston water. Short walk, downhill, to the village centre, lake and a local Inn-no need to drive. Large secure bike and kit store. Parking on the lane close to the property (first come basis). Wi-fi, Smart TV with soundbar open fire (fuel not included). Double electric oven, hob & microwave, fridge & freezer, washing machine. Gas central heating throughout. Children over 10 years old welcome. Bed linen and towels provided.
Super lovely little cottage, we have stayed here twice and will definately stay again in the future. The cottage itself has everything you could possibly need and is quite clean and tidy although the upstairs decor is a lot nicer than downstairs, the living room sofa and chair along with the kitchen table and chairs are well used and a bit scruffy/smelly but not enough to put me off staying again. The best parts of this cottage are the views from the windows and the views from the little garden out front, unbelievably gorgeous. The only negatives I can think of are the main front bedroom needs a blackout blind, the bathroom needs hooks of some sort as there is nowhere to hang your clothes and dogs are not allowed to stay.
