The popular town of Keswick is the holiday centre of the North of the Lake District and has plenty to offer the visitor at any time of year. The town boasts numerous shops and restaurants to suit all tastes, as well as offering miniature golf, excellent parks, the famous Theatre by the Lake, a charming cinema, the Pencil Museum, a climbing wall, fishing and great mountain biking opportunities, whilst the beautiful lake of Derwentwater at the head of the stunning Borrowdale Valley is only a few minutes walk from the town centre. Nearby, between Braithwaite and Buttermere is the beautiful Newlands Valley, while picturesque Bassenthwaite Lake is well worth a visit. From a gentle countryside ramble to a challenging hike up Skiddaw or the famous Catbells, there really is something for everyone. Visit Castlerigg Stone Circle, the Jennings Brewery and Mirehouse, a grand house and gardens on the shores of the Bassenthwaite Lake, or take a fabulous boat trip around Derwentwater. With plenty of attractions for the kids, lovely parks and the nearby Lake District Wildlife Park this is a great Lakeland destination whatever the time of year.

Reviews

Perfect comfortable 7cottage with everything we could have needed. Night lights and torches were a lovely touch. Quiet and secluded, even though in the centre of Keswick, with lots of private parking. Beautiful walks right from the door and fells to climb. Our dogs loved the large garden, complete with rabbits! Lots of room to run and play, although not totally secure. Cottage needs a little attention in parts, light above mirror in downstairs bathroom doesn't work, patch of paper hanging from sitting room ceiling, handle needs replacing on utility room door. pillows are dreadful. Asked at booking for beds to be made as kings but were still set as singles on arrival even though I had confirmed this before arriving. Rang the number given but apparently no one could come to change them and it was suggested pushing together! No idea how this could have worked. Could do with a bigger outdoor bin as it was full when we arrived. Patio door lock is a little temperamental. These small things did not spoil our holiday and we would love to return if the cottage is still a rental property next year. Thank you for a wonderful break.

We stayed here actually at the end of July 2021 for a week. There were 6 of us aged from 13 then 18 and upwards. So technically 5 adults and a teen and there was so much space. The photos don’t do this justice as it felt so big and you could actually get lost not knowing which door leads where. The garden is huge and played a huge part in our holiday with badminton and volley ball as well as a controlled game of cricket! The location is superb and we only the car to get us to Keswick extreme for ghyll scrambling and a separate paddle boarding session (hugely recommended). Within 5 minutes max. you are in Keswick main centre and we used this as a base for all of our walks (go into the tourist office and they have leaflets for walks from there which range from 3 hours upto about 9 depending on ability and agility). The house was spotlessly clean. The views from the garden are to die for and you get sun all day. If there were any downsides it would be the size of the bed in the main bedroom as it’s a double and we’re used to a super king (I know this is picky) and we found that there weren’t 6 of everything (wine glasses, tumblers, plates) - so if these could be checked then great. If you are looking for something in Keswick - this should be your first choice. By the way the rubble pile next door did not impact on us at all.
