Fern Bank Cottage, Bowness-On-Windermere

We saved up for our 25th wedding anniversary and were excited to land at the cottage. We were immediately disappointed when we arrived and opened the door. The cottage was dirty and it was extremely cold. We tried to put the heating on but it was overridden by the owner. I went into the bathroom and the toilet was dirty, you could see it as you walked into the bathroom. I was appalled that I needed to clean the toilet before using it!! Under the super king bed was filthy and needed hoovering. The area where you washed clothes had not been brushed for years. If you touched any of the pots supplied they had grease on them. The cooker was dirty and the fridge has a smell when you opened it. We went into the living room and sat on the sofa, it was broken, the owner had placed cushions underneath to try and hide the fact that it was broken which meant that you couldn’t sit on it, we tried to fix it, underneath the make shift approach to the owner fixing it was absolutely disgusting!! How cruel and mean spirited for an owner to think that you would sit on such a thing. After two days we left, we were so shocked and went home. We didn’t want to cause upset so we spoke to the letting agents who asked us to email our issues, we asked for a refund and were kind to the owners. Sadly, the owners were not receptive to our issues and offered £100 and nothing else, the holiday cost us £601.00!!! All our hard work has gone to people that have not looked at that aspect of our complaint. Greed has got in the way I’m afraid. I wouldn’t want anybody to go through what we have gone through. We all work hard for our holidays, to be treated like this with our anniversary has hurt us and has left us extremely disappointed. Book with caution, the house is dirty and is not as you would expect from the photographs. I do hope that this helps people in the future.
