Craftsman Cottage is the perfect self-catering cottage for couples, lovingly restored in a modern style yet retaining many of the original features, with a high standard of finish and character. Formerly a barn, this delightful property is full of character with exposed beams, traditional flagged floors and floorboards. Open the original oak door to the hallway with ample coat hanging and boot storage where a feature staircase leads to the first floor living accommodation. The spacious open lounge with dining area features original wooden floorboards, oak beams and a vaulted ceiling. Furnished with a TV, large comfy sofa and an armchair and a log burner, this is a great area to gather for a cosy night. Views from the lounge are to Grizedale Forest over the church yard. A door leads out onto the external spinning gallery under the eaves - a truly unique feature of this property. Returning to the ground floor, the classy kitchen is finished to a high standard and very well equipped with everything you could need during your stay. Upstairs and the romantic bedroom has a king size bed with Smart TV, en-suite with bath and shower over, basin and WC. It also has a dressing table to one end, with draws, mirror and seating. French doors lead from the bedroom out onto the patio, ideal for everything from enjoying the morning paper with a cup of coffee or a glass of wine. This truly romantic self-catering property in Hawkshead village is an ideal choice for a special occasion or Lake District honeymoon, perfect for exploring Hawkshead village, Beatrix Potter country and Lake Windermere, or simply a luxurious bolthole where you'll experience a taste of laid-back Lakeland life. To the west of Lake Windermere, Hakwshead's car-free village centre is quaint with cobbled streets and traditional Lakeland cottages mixed with tea rooms, cosy pubs and local shops. The village is surrounded by wonderful walking territory for all abilities. Manageable walks around Esthwaite Water and Tarn Hows provide quite unforgettable scenery, whereas the more energetic will be tempted by Latterbarrow, Claife Heights or perhaps the Langdale Pikes, which are also within driving distance in the Langdale Valley. Near Sawrey is a small hamlet only a short distance away between Hawkshead and Lake Windermere. The area is renowned for its connections with Beatrix Potter, whose home can be visit at Hill Top. For a wide range of sophisticated shops, acclaimed Lake District restaurants and memorable lake cruises from Waterhead Pier, head north a short distance to Ambleside on the northern shores of Lake Windermere. Also nearby is the excellent Drunken Duck Inn and Restaurant - highly recommended for a special occasion. To experience the hustle and bustle of Bowness, a popular Lake District holiday destination on the other side of Lake Windermere, you only need drive a short distance to the car ferry crossing.

The picturesque village of Hawkshead still retains the charm and character that so endeared it to its most famous residents - William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter. Visitors can wander the wealth of tiny alleyways, thoroughfares, archways and courtyards between the whitewashed 17th century houses. There are many pleasant inns, teashops, guest houses and gift shops in the village, as well as the Beatrix Potter Gallery, which houses an annually changing exhibition of the famous author’s illustrations and stories. The other famous Hawkshead enthusiast, William Wordsworth, attended the Old Grammar School in 1779-87, which still stands today, and you can visit the building where the Lakeland poet developed his love of the form, and even see the desk into which he scratched his name as a small boy! Newby Bridge is ten miles away and offers attractions such as the Aquarium of the Lakes and Windermere Lake Cruises, sailing daily between Ambleside, Bowness and Lakeside. With stunning scenery and numerous attractions within easy touring distance, Hawkshead is in an ideal location at any time of the year.
