Lostwithiel is a country town sitting amongst the Fowey River in Cornwall. Famed as a centre for the antiques trade, there's plenty of quaint shops to explore here, as well as idyllic pubs, restaurants and a bustling farmer's market. In easy reach you will find attractions such as the National Trust's Lanhydrock House, Baconnoc House, the Eden Project and much more to entertain all tastes. In reach of Padstow and Fowey too, there's plenty to explore both in and around Lostiwthiel.
On entering the property we were greeted by a strong musty smell. It was very shabby and in need of some tlc and a refresh. Dirty stained furniture and rug, poorly painted worktops that were stained, had grease buildup on edges and peeling paint. Not suitable or hygienic for food prep. Could not hang our clothes as built in wardrobes smelt. Stained bath, wall stained from toilet brush splashes next to toilet. Broken window pane in bedroom, dirty ironing board cover. Garden unusable as not secure for dogs and garden furniture full of algae and dirt. Windows not been cleaned in a long time. Dried bird poo on windows goes to shie how long windows hadnt been cleaned.. Upon reading the guest book we found other comments regarding cleanliness and the owners left very harsh responses to them. Made us feel like we couldn't complain as they seemed very confrontational which i couldnt deal with due to my acute anxiety. PLACE NEEDED MORE THAN A CLEAN, IT NEEDED A REPAINT AND DEEP CLEAN. We looked online for other places to stay but didn't find anything suitable on one level as disabled and a blind dog in tow. We decided to make the best of it and get on with our holiday plans by staying out all day, only returning to the property to sleep with the intention of reporting the property condition to Sykes on our return. We cleaned the best we could but didn't feel comfortable to cook there due to grime build up and that lovely romantic dog friendly garden they advertised was a far cry from the facts. Despite the owners being in breach of contract by not supplying a clean well maintained property and supplying evidence to Sykes, they refused to do anything about it as didn't raise it during our stay. Even though it states on the booking conditions you have 7 days after your stay to report this. I received a very insulting text message from the owner and this backed up my theory that the owner was very confrontational so made the right decision not to contact them directly during my stay. Sykes are useless and couldn't care less. I am disgusted with how they handled this. On arrival we also found the garden access was shared and others who always left the gate open onto the main road, dangerous for our dogs!! And it wasn't a private garden as such as others had right of way access. That wasn't mentioned on the listing. Our dog blankets were cleaner to sit on than the chairs. I am going through a chargeback claim to get a 50% refund. I am disgusted with the owners as well as Sykes as they willing take people's money and don't supply the goods.
