AVOID, AVOID, AVOID ! Very disappointed with our stay in Gorwelion, Holyhead, Summer 2021 Upon arrival the whole property had an awful sewage smell. There was little improvement after leaving the doors & windows open for several hours. The smell was tracked down to the conservatory area which we then closed off & could not use for the whole of our stay. As instructed we immediately contacted the owner with our concerns. The owner said they had a problem with the drainage but thought it had been resolved. It certainly had not ! On day five of our seven-day stay a drainage company were due to take a look at the situation. Don't know if they did as we had no further correspondence from the owner. With the conservatory room sealed off as best we could, unable to use either that room or the external decking area, the smell was still permeating through to the Kitchen, Small WC, Utility & Lounge rooms. Extremely unpleasant. If this had been a hotel we would have demanded to be moved or would have left to find alternative accommodation. Unfortunately in this circumstance this would not have been possible due to the size of our party & the fact we had already pre paid £2500 not knowing our rights on a refund. We did make do with this awful situation however the stench was terrible & in short the property was not fit for let in this condition. The property information page also infers that the property has a double garage. We were informed by the owner two day's before our stay that the garage would be locked & unavailable for use. Now hold on a minute, I pre paid for the use of that garage ! Again, upon arrival we found the main oven broken, we were unable to use & again the owner said he was aware of this before our stay. Just as alarming is the response we received after our stay from the agent Sykes Holiday Cottages & the owner. They were both in complete denial that there was a problem with Gorwelion & unilaterally terminated correspondence. Totally unacceptable behaviour but what can you do, well in short not a lot. They have your money, they deny responsibility for a ruined holiday, you have been well & truly stuffed ! As a family we don't usually make complaints however the sewage smell situation was totally unacceptable & it left us with a significant part of the property that we were unable to use. No compensation offered ! Holidaymakers, you have been warned. I would not stay here again even if you paid me ! To finish on a lighter note I do have a suggestion for the owner of Gorwelion. How about renaming your property. Maybe something like Gorhellion or even, far more appropriate, Gorsmellion !
