Abbey Cottage, Denbigh

Great size property, we were a party of 10, We arrived at different times as was coming from different locations. The heating and hot water system were not great. Water was freezing cold then scalding hot, I called the owner for some help and he was very condescending, “I explained everything when you arrived” mother and father in law said it was all an information overload to which I said I wasn’t there when you were telling my mother and father in law information so we would like some help please. He also offered some fire lighters on arrival to which other members of the party kindly declined at the time of arrival as it was warm so didn’t think we would need them, anyway he told them if you change your mind let me know and I’ll leave some at the front door, great we thought! When I called him about the heating I asked for some fire lighters “well you didn’t want them the other day” I said well we do now please, he started laughing sarcastically and said well they are only 99p from B&M! I told him no worries I will grab some but you told us to let you know if we changed our mind. He did leave some but that conversation didn’t need to happen if he was happy to provide them in the first place. His mannerisms weren’t pleasant. He kindly let us know the property was available from 2pm and on leaving said we didn’t have to rush out by 10am, we thought this was kind but he was very jekyl and Hyde on the telephone saying he’s never had issues with water before, reviews state otherwise. Definitely needs modernising, as in door handles are loose, bed in back downstairs bedroom was broke, we had to end up sleeping on the leather sofa which was awful. We did mention it but nothing got done. Skirting boards needs a good clean. Curtain poles need straightening up, curtains need a clean, no number on microwave so pretty confusing. Wales is a lot further forward with recycling than us in England so was quite tricky to get used to that. We did our best. A lot of dos & donts in the house. The log burner needs a gate around it as the glass gets extremely hot so not ideal with children being around it. Upstairs en suite shower fills up and over flows. Great location, lovely grounds. Hopefully Mr Carpenter will be able to take the constructive criticism on board. Thanks again!
