Loved the location, close enough to enjoy pleasant coastal walks. The accommodation was very cosy with basic essentials. A proper getaway but still within a few miles of several places.

Just myself & the dog. The cottage was cosy, warm, well equipped and excellent facilities - including a dog walking paddock, and lovely owners. No stairs was such a bonus for me. Such a lovely cottage to snuggle down into after a day's outing. Since leaving we have such a yearning to be back, which we will. Really excellent value for money and an excellent base for going in all directions for days out. Highly recommended.

A beautiful cosy cottage set in pretty countryside, but close enough to get to Whitby, Robin Hood's Bay ect. A very friendly couple who own the cottages and camping site, it was a very quiet site. It was dog friendly with a comfortable bed so had a sound sleep, what more can you ask for? Will definitely be making a return trip.

Abbey Cottage is first class, made most welcome. You can see from Robin Hoods bay to Whitby on a clear day.

Rated by Mr Williams reviewed on 8th December 2014

Excellent location, so close to Whitby and Robin Hoods Bay with lots of lovely walks and open moors close by. The cottage is lovely and cosy and exceptionally clean and warm - a credit to the owners.

Rated by Mrs Moore reviewed on 15th November 2014

If you want peace and quiet come to this cottage around 5-10 minutes drive to Whitby and and views which will want you to build a house there ideal for walkers however you do need a car or bike etc.. its very out the way. couldn't watch a tv program at night with out the signal going funny. tiny bathroom and across the way you have a field to walk your dog and llamas to look at. down the lane which takes you to the cottage you have a dairy farm to your right the lane is very narrow going back down the lane leads to a busy road where if you go right leads to Whitby.

I dont understand why this hasnt been reviewed more. This is a lovely cottage, set in a great location, looking down Robin Hood Bay. The photos on the site does not do the cottage justice, it is much better than the photos. Everything and more is supplied in the cottage. The owners Kay & Alex are very friendly and approachable and nothing is to much trouble for them. I am hoping to go back again and would recommend this cottage to anyone who wants to get away from all the stresses in life. You will not be disappointed. The owners are doing a great job.

Very good location, convenient to explore the surrounding area. The area is very beautiful. The hosts friendly and approachable.

Rated by Mrs Provodenko reviewed on 28th December 2013

The photographs online do not do it justice with the bedroom and living room being much more spacious than they are made to appear. 30 minute picturesque walk into Robin Hoods bay, 5 minute drive to Whitby and 20 minute drive to Scarborough. Very easy to find and parking excellent, allowing you to reverse up to door whilst unloading the wine as well! Finally the owners are very welcoming and extremely helpful, whilst at the same time it is very private and we felt totally relaxed in the peace and quiet of the lovely cottage. Will return again.

Rated by Mr Smith reviewed on 3rd July 2013

The cottage was small but it didn't feel like that. We had two adults in the bedroom and two children on the sofa bad. The bedroom was big enough to keep four people's stuff. The rest of the cottage was great too. Lovely location with plenty to do. Every day we were out for full days of fun.

Rated by Mrs Johnes reviewed on 23rd September 2012

Firstly, we enjoyed the welcome from the owners - along with their friendliness, helpfulness, and guidance and where to go and what to do. We liked the serenity of the location - a separate holiday compound adjacent to a dairy farm (very quiet), with an adjoining paddock where about 6 alpacas would give you the once-over while you were outside having your morning coffee, admiring the view over to Whitby Abbey. We also liked the absolute delight of being in a real farmhouse cottage, with all mod cons, a top-of-the-line bed in a massive bedroom, and everything you needed in the kitchen. Finally, we liked the proximity to the stunning scenery and the towns and villages of North Yorkshire, well within an hours drive of High Normanby: Robin Hood's Bay; Saltburn-by-the-Sea; Guisborough; Hutton-le-Hole; Thornton-le-Dale; Rievaulx Abbey; and of course Whitby. We had an absolutely wonderful relaxing week, and sincerest thanks to the owners.

A lovely homely cottage in a complex of 3 that could be rented separately or as a family group, lovely owners who were around if required, otherwise not seen. Dog friendly, warm and comfortable. Ideal for 2 but large enough for 4 with pull out sofa bed. Good selection of DVD, books and local information. well equipped kitchen and large enough to cook Christmas dinner which was important to me. It is a smallholding opposite a working dairy farm, so don't complain if there are smells of the countryside when you wake up. We had one small problem with access when we encountered a heavy snowfall and could not get up the hill in a 2 wheel drive car. But it made for a perfect white christmas break.

Rated by BlanchCroft reviewed on 19th May 2011

The location was good and the cottage was warm. The bed was comfy.

Rated by Mr Pearson reviewed on 22nd March 2011

We booked this property in early October without a thought for the weather, however two weeks before our arrival, the snow fell heavily in the UK. I kept in contact with the owner who assured us they would get us into the fairly remote property at least as they owned a 4x4. The plan was to arrange a Tesco home delivery on the day that we arrived, but the on-line service had stopped taking any more bookings due to the snow. So a quick shopping expedition on our way to North Yorkshire and we were excited. The place is about 1/2 mile off the main road and we found it no problem even in the dark. We were met by Kaye, the owner who soon put us at ease and after a quick run down of the cottage, explained where the local hostelry was. I had been nominated chef for the week, so a quick search round "my kitchen" put me in a great party mood. It was perfect, everything to hand, clean and well equipped. It is a farm cottage on a working smallholding with dogs, chickens, sheep and the alpacas over the fence. The property has a large comfy double bedroom and in the lounge the comfiest sofa bed I have ever slept on. It has constant hot water, a great shower and a stable door to look out into the foldyard. We spent lazy days at home, with the small TV, and plenty of books in the property it was a relaxing break. We are not walkers or ramblers but spent our time equally between "the Bay" and Whitby exploring the lovely shops, pubs and harbour. You cannot go to Whitby without buying smoked Kippers from Fortunes. you cannot visit the Bay without a couple of pints in the pub looking out to sea. We only needed assistance once in our front wheel drive car but the locals were as helpful as any you would wish to meet. Would we go again, you bet your auntie Nelly we would. Lovely cottage, Lovely people, Lovely area!

We stayed here for 4 days and used it as a base from which to tour the beautiful surrounding countryside and coast. It was ideal. The cottage was probably the cleanest we've ever found. Good places to eat,all within a fairly short drive. The owner was a little sweetie, and we loved watching her collecting her eggs and tending her animals. We really loved the area and will return someday soon.
