On first entering the property appeared clean. Unfortunately, on closer inspection we found it to be full of dust. The plastic flowers everywhere are particularly covered. This brought on an bad allergic reaction for my partner. She had to double up on anti allergy medication. We sat in the lounge area and found all the cushions were also covered in dust. They had to be removed just so we could watch the TV in the evening. The mat on the floor smelt particularly bad and needs to be cleaned thoroughly. When we went up to bed there are lots of extra blankets for guests to use. These also had to be removed so we could sleep. They need properly cleaning or replaced! Who knows when this was last done?! There was dust around the ornaments and these also had hadn't been cleaned properly. It was so bad that we had to move them all into the other bedroom. That night neither of us slept well. We paid £844 to stay in this property & they put a £200 open coil mattress in it! It was awful and neither of us had a good night's sleep since we got here! Surely paying that amount of money for a SYKES property you would at least expect to be able to sleep. The bathroom smelt strongly of a male scent, which is still there as we are leaving. It makes me question the cleanliness in there. There are more placstic dust collectors in the courner of that room. The shower head also falls down every time you shower which is annoying each day. On Tuesday afternoon, we were settingly down for lunch, when a man appeared in the back garden! He said through the window that he was there to clean the patio window. He didn't knock on the front door to let us know or ask if it was OK! We felt exposed and unsure of our safety. We booked this property because of its "secure" garden for our dog. If he had been out in the garden and escaped I can't bear to think of the consequences. We came to the conclusion we had had enough and decided to leave a day early. What a complete waste of money. The day we decided to leave was the most horrifying. As requested by the owner, I stripped the bed. To my horror I discovered what we had been sleeping in. The duvet is badly stained and has lots of small hairs all over it. The mattress itself has a large what I can only believe is urine stain on it. I am honestly disgusted and feel physically sick on discovering this! We booked through Sykes and paid a premium for this property as we expected to find cleanliness and be able to sleep. Owner offered one night free as compensation. Why would we want to stay in this place again?!
