The standard of cleanliness we experienced at the Chy Lowen holiday cottage during our recent stay was sub standard and upon entry to the cottage from the rear of the property into the kitchen it was evident that the standard of cleanliness was not at the level we have experienced at previous Sykes booked cottages, and certainly did not meet the COVID levels of cleanliness we have also experienced from bookings during the COVID pandemic. The upstairs I must advise was clean, bedding had been freshly laundered and smelt fresh like it had actually been cleaned, including all 3 bedrooms and the bathroom, however downstairs was very poor. We had to leave the cottage before unpacking and go to the local supermarket to buy the required cleaning products to ensure that downstairs met the standards we expect and would be to a safe standard given the COVID situation and didn't want to risk getting COVID. The grime that we experienced whilst cleaning over kitchen top surfaces, doors, a cake stand, cat flap, the dining table and the handles to things like the cooker, fridge etc was not acceptable, to a point where potentially dangerous from an infection control perspective. The lounge area was not much better with the fabric settees needing to be hoovered and sprayed down with fabreeze to improve the smell of them - sweaty bodies! Given these short comings and the time taken for us to have to clean the kitchen and downstairs to an acceptable standard, I believe we should be compensated for the danger of a non confirming COVID safe environment in beach of your own COVID policy, the products purchased that should have been supplied on site (approx £40, no receipts sorry), and the time we spent cleaning the cottage, when in fact we should have been enjoying our break! Don't bother complaining the owners are dismissive of any reasonable feedback!
