Reviews

I booked this holiday home through Sykes holiday cottages last year. Never heard of the company but thoroughly checked it out and seemed secure. We arrived after a 6 hr drive but the sat nav took us to a cul de sac up the road. Tried phoning the number we had been emailed previously but just kept playing a music and after 5 mins gave up. We Started to get a little worried we had been scammed. My husband went off down chestnut hill to look for a property fixing the description and about 50 m down from sat nav directions and luckily code worked on key safe , we found it and we were in! First impressions was that it was beautiful? Just what we expected from the photos. But further investigations and after living in it for a week we have written a few details down for you. Good points and bad points to follow: Good points: View from lounge was absolutely breathtaking, over Keswick and the mountains and hills beyond and changed daily, from the best sunsets I have ever witnessed to just pure beauty! Large sofas x 2 in lounge, great for lounging Garden room that my 15 yr old loved as he had own double bed, sofa, table and telly and his own toilet and sink just across the hall, just what a teenager loves, his own space Lovely walk in shower upstairs in en-suite WiFi- good access in property Washing machine and tumble dryer that we used, don’t use dishwater, ever, so can’t comment Quiet at night but with windows open you do hear cars on the road behind. Bus stop outside if needed, we walked every time and it’s all downhill in about 20 min walking briskly but uphill back, wouldn’t recommend if you have mobility issues unless you drive everywhere or bus it Bad points: Dirty towel left in bath! Dirty mouldy freezer compartment, with a jug of ice cubes left in Light in lounge over dinner table coming away from ceiling Smoke alarm downstairs beeping constantly all night and day prior to us leaving! Bad timing and would need new battery? Parts of Wallpaper coming away from walls in various rooms, paintwork not brilliant everywhere, not major, but the whole house needs abit of tlc! Lots of cobwebs from ceilings A lot of the radiators downstairs were leaking and we put a plastic cup and towelling underneath, think it’s been ongoing as the carpet underneath was stained rusty Garden: Table and chairs need replacing, ratten coming off chairs and top of table filthy, we didn’t use any of it because of this Swing chair, rusty and quite unsafe I would say, sat on it and quite unbalanced! Lots of weeds in gravel and in patio Grass not been cut for a few weeks Such a shame because it could be a beautiful garden, just look at the one next door which is immaculate! Bins: Not emptied and we found a card about recycling so we put them at the top of the road the night before, all emptied Barr one. Surely it’s up to the owners, agents or cleaner to keep an eye on bins, the black bin was nearly full on arrival so would have been overflowing if we hadn’t emptied Personally the whole house could be so fantastic but the cleanliness and upkeep of the garden lets it down .when you pay £1500 for the week which we have done in other properties, you do expect perfection, which we have always had, this was a let down. we were out a lot and ate out everyday . I just think if these items were fixed and they got new outdoor seating and put it on the patio under the lounge windows it would just make everything perfect! We give 7 out of 10 overall for the house and location but the view there is what makes it and gets 10 out of 10
