The pretty town of Ottery St Mary is nestled on the banks of the River Otter in the picturesque countryside of Devon. The town homes a selection of traditional country pubs serving up quality local produce as well as plenty of boutique stores. Towering above the rooftops is a striking church, often compared as a lookalike to Exeter cathedral, which itself is within easy touring distance, along with the dramatic Jurassic Coast.
Devon, with its quiet country lanes, patchwork of lush green fields and sleepy villages is not to be missed. Stately home lovers will be spoiled and why not finish with a scrumptious Devonshire cream tea?
We loved the Upside Down Cottage, it was cosy and beautifully warm. We really liked the setting and the area is wonderful for easy access to Sidmouth, Seaton, Beer, Axminster, Honiton and Branscombe. We did struggle with the 4pm entry time, as we can't drive in the dark and finding a cottage in a small village isn't easy as it's getting dark. Same problem going home as its a 9 am get out. My husband has health problems and to get him out anywhere at 9am is impossible especially when you have to pack, strip bed etc first. I appreciate that this is probably not driven by the owner so we left the afternoon before. TV was basic with no Netflix, Sky etc which we don't mind as normally we would link into the WiFi but unfortunately this was almost non existent. However, this didn't stop us having a really delightful break in a comfortable home, which was snug and cosy. There was no washing tablets so we couldn't use the washing machine without me buying some. The dining room chairs weren't very comfortable but we managed by sitting on cushions. This charming upside down cottage was a very welcoming retreat for a weeks break. Lovely bottle of wine, biscuits, flowers and milk all of which was very welcome....

"Last Minute Breaks" (LMB) are available at most properties throughout the "LOW", "MID", "HIGH", "PEAK", "XMAS" and "NEW YEAR" periods. The price for a 3 night break is either 65% of the normal weekly rental or, if it is higher, the quoted Winter Short Break price. Extra nights are charged pro rata of the weekly rental. LMBs can be booked within one week of the start date of the holiday.
