This quaint, stone-built cottage rests down a lovely side road close to the centre of Hurst Green, in the scenic county of Lancashire. Well-equipped for a family getaway, The Smithy serves as a lovely base to explore Lancashire, including the beautiful Forest of Bowland AONB. After a day of rambles, change out your walking attire into something more comfortable and retire to the sitting room, offering a plush corner sofa where you can snuggle up and browse the Smart TV. Allow the designated chef to relish in the kitchen, appointed with all the necessary appliances for a short break, including a double oven, induction hob and fridge/freezer, while the dining table is where all can gather to taste the fruits of your labour. As you start to yawn, retire to either of the three bedrooms, offering a double and twin on the ground floor, while upstairs provides a king-size with en-suite shower room, plus some charming village views. Start your morning with a refreshing shower or savour a lazy soak in the evenings, both achievable within the ground-floor bathroom. A charming patio garden offers a spot for some alfresco dining, or wander a restaurant in the village if you’d rather not cook. There is also a rustic pub where you can sink a refreshing pint after wandering the surrounding country paths or riding the cycle routes. Pendle Hill, Forest of Bowland and Longridge Fell are all close by with many points of interest to discover. The Ribble Valley is famously a foodie area, boasting a Michelin starred restaurant, Northcote, along with many other great establishments. Pick up some local produce at Clitheroe’s great mix of specialist shops, such as multi award-winning Byrnes Wines, Exchange Coffee and Cowmans Butchers and a growing number of quirky bars and pop-up restaurants. Other attractions worth visiting include the Bowland Wild Boar Park, the scenic Whalley Arches and the National Trust owned property of Gawthorpe Hall, or how about a trip to the coast to enjoy the seaside attractions of Blackpool or Lytham St. Annes? If adventure takes you further afield, for something different you can take a trip to the Yorkshire Dales or The Lake District, providing some of the country’s finest natural beauty. The Smithy is a sumptuous base to return to each evening.
The little village of Hurst Green is nestled in scenic Lancashire countryside, in the Ribble Valley district, on the edge of the Forest of Bowland. The village holds a strong connection to J.R.R Tolkien’s creation of middle earth as the author spent most of his time at Stonyhurst College working on The Lord of the Rings during the Second World War. The village is home to a rustic pub, a café and a restaurant, while Clitheroe is nearby and offers a great choice of shops, providing options for holidaymakers.
